Maura Hennigan, having been trounced in her quixotic bid to unseat Boston Mayor Tom Menino, and facing imminent unemployment when her City Council term runs out in a couple of weeks, has a new idea: get a hack job! The Globe reports today that Hennigan will seriously consider running for Clerk of the criminal division of Suffolk Superior Court, a job being vacated by John Nucci who is moving into the administration of Suffolk University.
Never mind that Hennigan (bio) is not a lawyer, and seems to have no law enforcement or other criminal law experience, or any other qualifications seemingly bearing any relationship to the job. Not that that’s ever stopped anyone else who wanted a hack job in the state’s court system. Still, it’s depressing that, at least to read the Globe, the biggest attraction of the job seems to be its outsized salary:
Hennigan has done lots of interesting things in her career. Surely she can do better than this for her next step.

Why on earth is this an elected position?
