John McDonough of Health Care for All has three emails posted that show business groups firing up the FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt) machine against the employer health care mandate. Here’s a sample:
—
âSmall-business ownersâ first reaction is that the health care reform proposal on Beacon Hill is headed in the wrong direction,â said Bill Vernon, state director of the National Federation of Independent Business, the stateâs largest small-business advocacy organization.
âThe proposals before the conference committee include cost relief for providers and insurers and shift the costs onto the employers in the state. Employers already pay billions to cover their employees and have incurred double digit increases for health insurance premiums over the past several years,â he said.

Right, those employers who already pay billions? *They’re not affected.* Nice try, Bill. This is a way to get employers who shove their employees’ health care costs onto the taxpayers to take up some of their own slack.
The Big Smear is coming — let’s use it as an opportunity to mobilize some pro-health-reform phone calls and letters.
