The Somerville Democratic City Committee (of which I am a member) will hold a combination Brunch/Meeting/Holiday Party from 10 am to 1 pm this Sunday, December 18 at Good Time Emporium in Assembly Square.
The event will end with a forum featuring candidates Denise Provost and Elizabeth Moroney, who are running against each other in a special primary election to be held on January 10th.
The original invitation that I received said that an endorsement vote would follow the forum. In my RSVP, I raised questions about quorum and about the majority needed to make an endorsement. I suspect that other City Committee members raised similar issues. Four members wrote this letter to the Somerville Journal, urging the committee not to hold an endorsement vote.
In any event, this morning I received an e-mail saying that the City Committee has indeed decided not to make an endorsement. I still encourage supporters of each candidate, as well as undecided voters, to attend the event.
