“Saddam Hussein followed through on his threat to boycott his trial Wednesday,” the Associated Post reported today. Am I missing something? Didn’t we just spend $224 billion dollars, lose 2,132 troops, and dig Rumsfeld’s old buddy Mr. Hussein out of a nasty spider hole in order to have this trial? Condi needs to get some of her secret prison guards on the job and explain to Mr. H. that nap time is over. No wonder 60% of Americans disapprove of the job President Bush is doing in Iraq, and no wonder the Republican party gets squeaky and defensive when Dean tells them to “take the targets off our troops’ back.”

Tom DeFrank from the NY Daily News, among others, is reporting that Rumsfeld is gone after the new year. Early reports have, and I am not kidding, Joe Lieberman as the leading candidate for Sec def, even Kos has it

But seriously, why do they need him there? The prosecution and defense will both present their witnesses whether he is present in the room or not. His absence doesn’t prejudice his ability to present a defense at all. Unless that court works substantially differently from our own courts, but I don’t think it does.

I’d like to see him try this stuff at the Boston Municipal Court!
