This week’s Somerville Journal and Somerville News both endorse Denise Provost for State Representative in the upcoming Democratic primary to be held next Tuesday, January 10.
Both editorials also say nice things about Denise’s opponent, Elizabeth Moroney, and encourage her to stay involved in local affairs.
Today’s Journal also has news items covering campaign spending and fundraising and last week’s candidates’ debate at the Somerville Chamber of Commerce.
To volunteer on Denise’s campaign, call 617-625-3500. Given the low intensity of both candidates’ campaigns, and the time of year, turnout may be the deciding factor next Tuesday. No Republicans or independents have filed for this seat, so next Tuesday’s winner is pretty much guaranteed to win the meaningless general election on February 7.

I think it’s very unusual for both papers to endorse the same candidate PDS also endorsed. How often has that happened?

If I recall correctly, both papers and PDS endorsed Paul Bockelman for School Committee in Ward 6 last year. I think they all agreed on Walter Pero too, but he was only notionally opposed.

PDS hasn’t been around all that long, and the Somerville News has only become a real newspaper in the last couple of years, even though it’s been around in one form or another since the early 1970s.
