There are three important primaries for State House seats next week (Tuesday Jan. 10): Middlesex 27th (Somerville), Worcester 2nd (Gardner), and Bristol 1st (Foxboro, though neither primary in this race is contested). There are some links to candidate sites on our Election wiki – if you know of more, please head on over and add them.
As you would expect, the mainstream media isn’t doing much to cover these elections, so bloggers are stepping in. BMG regulars have blogged the Foxboro and Somerville races (using our fabulous “user post, not diary, thank you very much” function), and Mariposa over at Beyond 495 has done great work covering the Gardner race – yesterday she posted an interview with independent write-in candidate Dennis Venuto.
These are some of the races where bloggers can make a real difference. Keep up the great work, everyone!
January 10th – 27th Middlesex (half of Somerville): Two Democrats on the ballot, and no others. The primary next Tuesday is the election. The general won’t matter. It’s safe to assume we won’t have a strong write-in candidate because if there were, we’d know about them by now.

February 7th – 1st Bristol (Foxboro, Mansfield, Norton): One Democrat and one Republican on the ballot. There is no competition in either primary, so January 10th doesn’t matter much. The real contest will be in the general election on Feb 7th.

Both – 2nd Worcester: 3 Democrats and a Republican. There’s strong competition in the Democratic primary, and real competition in the general election as well. Both count.
I would love to post a diary er, um… User Post, but I got all confuzzled over the extended comment section. I never know how much to put in the teaser section. I’ll get it figured out eventually. đŸ™‚
… is the suggested amount for the “intro”.
if for some reason the “extended” thing isn’t working, you can put the whole entry in the main post. We don’t have a thing like Kos that kicks you out if you don’t follow the rules. We just want to avoid fifteen-paragraph posts on the front page.
