The ACLU of Massachusetts is inviting all of us to an Emergency Town Meeting on domestic surveillance and the rule of law, at Faneuil Hall, 6-8pm today. If you’re in Boston, please come! Here’s a flyer with the details.
Speakers at the meeting include:
- US Representative Ed Markey (MA-7)
- Carol Rose, Executive Director, ACLU of Massachusetts
- Ann Beeson, Legal Director, American Civil Liberties Union
- Marc Rotenberg, Electronic Privacy Information Center
We in Massachusetts have a special opportunity to influence the national debate on civil liberties just as the Congress takes up Patriot Act reauthorization again, through HB 1881. I’ll blog in more detail about that soon. But for now, I just want to make sure those of you in or near Boston know about this meeting tonight, and I hope I’ll see you there.
Please share widely!

I attended the Town Meeting in Lexington last month that featured all of these speakers except Ann Beeson. I am probably not going to go to this, but the last one was extremely informative. I’d reccomended it to anyone interested in this issue.

Did anybody write up the last one, or is anybody going to be doing a writeup of the one in Faneuil Hall?

I wrote a quick writup of the one in Lexington. Universal Hub also pointed out this more detailed post about the meeting.

I’m here at Faneuil Hall. The first portion of the meeting, currently, has Markey playing clips of Bush/Gonzalez/etc., and having the panelists address each claim. I’ve learned a few new things, and I’ve been following this closely for years.

BTW, US Congressman Bill Delahunt is here. Senator Kennedy apparently really wanted to come, but had to miss it because of the Alito cloture vote being scheduled for today.
