It is upsetting to see the arrogance of Romney, Capuano, Patrick who have burned through either their campaign funds or have used taxpayer money without any sense of responsibility. I contributed to Romney’s campaign as well as to others, including Dems) and expect that my contributions would be used wisely in the pursuit of the paricular campaign..I can’t believe the number of trips Romney he took with his staff at my expense. These trips had nothing to do with being Governor.
Capuano….well this is absolute stupidity with a touch of arrogance. Those who bashed Brian’s Globe story on one are wrong. They are not thinking about the other fiscal responsibility that these politicians must account to in their own personal domains before they spend the taxpayers money
Finally, I understand that Deval Patrick raised $1,200,000 at the outset of his campaign and blew throught like a hot knife through butterit for a huge staff, consultants, etc. He lost his campaign manager as a result and has upset a lot of his supporters. How would you expect him to handle the finances of the state.
Well thats easy….just raise taxes!

I blasted McGrory’s column on Capuano because I thought it was a stupid column that was more interested in lobbing schoolyard insults at Capuano than in making any kind of serious point – not because I thought Capuano was justified in taking his boondoggle trip to Brazil. And my post made that clear.

I agree rightmiddleleft. I blame it on our loose laws re: campaign financing. Actually, I should be more specific because we do have VERY strong laws (in some areas). However, when you’re dealing with campaign warchests, candidates are allowed to use it on “whatever furthers their future political career.” Obviously, as evidenced by Romney’s big spending and Finneran’s excessive spending on leadership, dinners, etc…we know that the law gives a lot of leeway.

It pains me that all this money is given to candidates when I think about what the equivalent amoung could do for oxfam, or a food pantry. What if everytime someone donated to a candidate they’d have to donate an equal amount to charity? that would never fly but how about it?

the one shining light is that when a politician closes out their account they are directed to give it to the charity of their choice…
