The idea is that the infamous booze cruise would be off-limits in a campaign against a Senator with his own history of scandals.

Blute would really be taking a bullet for the state party though. They’re not going to spend any money on him, and any money he gets from the NRSC is going to go straight to field organization to help turnout for the gubernatorial race. The other advantage is that it would force Kennedy to spend money here in Massachusetts, and not in Rhode Island, for example.

The question I ask is what would Blute get out of it other than another L on his electoral record? If he ends up doing this, it’s only because someone promised him something and not because he expects to win.
here’s the link. Apparently the national party has asked Blute to consider it.

I can think is that they want to make EMK use some of his gigantic war chest at home, instead of sending it off across the country (or say, to RI).

Honestly, though, if Mitt can’t swoop in and beat him, who can.

Romney can’t possibly be that stupid. First, you don’t poke a sleeping lion, and energizing Ted Kennedy at the top of the ticket won’t help elect Healey. He’ll pull out another 5 or 6 percent through what is now a fairly robust field organization. Second, does Romney want the people of Iowa to know that Romney felt comfortable leaving the state in the hands of Healey and Blute? He has no choice with Healey, but he’s kept his fingerprints off the hackarama for the most part, but not if Blute is his hand picked candidate for Senate. Maybe when Romney is President he will reward Blute with the Secretary of Homeland Security position. Gidget can be Director of FEMA. Let’s hope Blute bites.

do you think he’d support Blute?
