Scott Ferson, Lt. Gov. candidate Tim Murray’s spokesman, sent an email this morning in response to this post and comments, as well as some posts over at MassChange. Here is Mr. Ferson’s email, in full.
I find myself the subject of some traffic on your site, and wish to respond. âHossâ has posted statements questioning my Democratic credentials, and your site has promoted his new blog. I attempted to post my response there, but his site has a filter that responses must be approved by the moderator, presumably âHossâ. He has chosen not to post my response, but to take a comment out of context and post another attack, so I thought Iâd try here.
Christy Mihos was a client of mine, and this should not be breaking news as it has been reported in various publications since 2001. I did not know him when he hired me after he was fired by Jane Swift (Republican). I was asked by a mutual friend who is a Democratic operative if I would be interested in helping, and I agreed. I think he was wrongly fired and the Supreme Court agreed. I wish Democrats at that time had used the opportunity to stand with him in his fight, but that wasnât the case. He remains a friend, but not a client, and I do not think that his decision to run for Governor as an Independent changes that.
Iâve never been accused of being a Republican. I have been on staff of Senator Kennedy and Chet Atkins, have worked in both presidential campaigns for Dick Gephardt, and Stephen Lynch, John Connolly, and John Rogers have been clients of my firm, as well as Tim Murray. I will confess to voting, and working for, John Anderson in 1980, and I will not apologize for that. I do agree that Tad Devine is a top notch media consultant, as is Steve Murphy whom I know from the Lynch campaign. I will also confirm that the T&G article was not âplantedâ by the Murray campaign, although I do like the theory that it is part of some grand strategy.

I am sorry about the comment setting on my blog. I am not as technically up to speed as I should be, and after going back into the settings of my blog, I see that I had “moderate comments” turned on. They should be turned off now, and I believe comments should be able to be posted. I also believe I have approved those comments that had been posted. What I can’t figure out is how to make the front page show that there have been comments posted. Any help?

Scott, I have posted your message from BMG over there at MassChange. I appreciate your forthrightness, I believe my research into you was not sufficient (beyond Google, which I rely on too heavily these days now that I’m out of grad school and don’t have free lexis.) You have burnished your Democratic credentials and even though it carries NO weight whatsoever and should not impact you or anyone at all, you are held in higher esteem now in my eyes because of your Anderson comment, who my parents wholeheartedly supported as well (I was 6 at the time…).

Welcome to the wonderful world of blogging on Blogger. I set my comments up to e-mail me when I get a comment – I never get e-mails when someone comments. 🙁

And Blogger f’n ATE my Deval Patrick audioblogs, so they are dead to me. Enough about me.

I worked for him too: pounding the pavement in a grim suburb of Hartford after being bused down from Cambridge. Excellent note, Scott. Please write more: personal musings, campaign notes, exhortations to political excellence; whatever strikes your fancy. In re: the various comments from your admirers, I particularly thought the following from “FraminghamDem” was excellent: “Person is friends with a republican god for bid! I have republican friends should I stop being a democrat?????” In the interest of full disclosure, I will testify here that I too have Republican friends — even family members who are among the 39% of this country that approves of the job President Bush is doing. As to the T&G article, I agree the idea it was part of a grand strategy is an excellent one — a pity it wasn’t. Maybe deciding not to plant the story was the first step in a brilliant long-term strategy? 😉 Hoss, glad to see you got your settings updated.

Of COURSE you’re not a Republican – you’re just another Democrat hoping Mihos will be a spoiler that will allow your inept Dem candidates to squesk across the finish line! There’s nothing but Democrat operatives still propping him up!
