Bush recently picked former Dig manager Richard Capka to head the federal highway department. Thank God, Kerry blocked it.
In the article, Sen. Kerry asks the Bush administration why they would appoint the (Michael) “Brownie” of highway projects to head the federal highway dept.
While it may not be the first thing that comes to mind when Americans think about Boston, The Big Dig is certainly at the top of the list of items associated with Bay State.
Even though the Dig was an engineering marvel with tremendous benefits for Boston, Eastern Mass. and New England, many officials are still licking wounds from the cost overruns.
Ex-Gov. Swift’s former chief of staff claims Capka is getting a bum rap, and that might be true, but any elected leader should know this man is political kryptonite. Why would Bush, the man who signed the bill cutting our federal transportation funding 20 percent, tap the former project manager of the bain of Washington transportation spending — the Big Dig?
