I wondered a little while back whether “Governor” Romney would let Lt. Gov. Kerry Healey sign the anti-gang bill that the legislature recently passed (which he could do by being on one of his many out-of-state trips when she signs it). Seems like an obvious way to help her out: crime is her issue much more than his; she worked hard to get that bill passed; and she could use something to boost her profile.
Not gonna happen. Kim Atkins has the details. Mitt will hold a little signing ceremony and take credit where credit ain’t due. But Healey will undoubtedly get to stand in the background thinking “thanks for nothing, boss.”
Relatedly, Wayne Woodlief has an interesting column today (reg. req’d) about how the total lack of qualified Republican candidates for statewide office below Governor and Lt. Gov. – a failure that can be laid squarely at the feet of the party’s most visible representative, namely, Mitt Romney – bodes badly for Healey’s chances to become Governor, for the Mass. GOP generally, and for Romney’s desire to become president.
Over a year ago, Mitt Romney actually said “from now on, it’s me, me, me.” Looks like he meant it.
