Cambridge City Councillor Anthony Galluccio will no longer be able to waltz into Jarrett Barrios’s Senate seat without so much as a primary to win. The Herald reports that two Democrats, Malden lawyer Stephen Winslow and Charlestown resident Brian Smith, will challenge Galluccio in the primary, and David Cleveland will run as an independent in the general election.
Winslow told the Herald that recently-publicized stories about Galluccio’s past drunk driving convictions, as well as the December 2005 accident still under investigation, prompted him to get into the race. Galluccio, however, is reportedly still enjoying the support of Senate President Travaglini and Rep. O’Flaherty of Charlestown. It’s obviously too early to say whether any of these folks represents a serious threat to Galluccio.
