House says that the Senate’s stripped-down plan for stripped-down plans ain’t gonna get it done.
Democrats, who hold an overwhelming majority in the House, met for an hour behind closed doors Thursday to discuss their response to the Senate action.
… During the House caucus, several members rose to defend the payroll tax. No one publicly opposed it, according to members who attended the meeting.
I don’t know where this game of chicken is going, except that I would guess that this represents DiMasi calling everyone’s bluff — that he thinks that Romney wouldn’t really tell Health and Human Services Sec. Leavitt to not approve the release of funds.
By the way, let’s not forget something: That’s our tax money that Leavitt and Romney are playing keep-away with. We in Massachusetts don’t get a dollar back from the feds for every dollar we pay to Washington.
Thanks to Under the Golden Dome for the steer.
UPDATE: Just a further thought: Does DiMasi know something the rest of us don’t?
House Speaker Salvatore DiMasi didn’t give any indication he would take up the Senate bill immediately and told members that both chambers have more time to work out a compromise bill than the deadline cited by the Senate.
I hope so.
