No surprise at all. Martha is the current DA and wants someone qualified to take over for her. Between the two candidates, Gerry Leone is the most qualified. Barrios doesn’t even come close to meeting the qualifications for a post like this. He should stay in the State House and focus on his job. I haven’t seen one thing come out of his office this year because he has been focusing on the campaign. Meanwhile Gerry has been working with Martha on this while British Murderer case. He even made a statement about it and if he becomes DA this is one of the things he is probably going to have to deal with.

The woman is running for state wide office. Granted no real opposition yet. There was no need for her to do this. It hurt her with progressives.

Barrios may withdraw before May 2nd.

Much more committed to the race than the other two candidates were who have already dropped out. If anything he may drop out after the convention where I think there will be far more Leone delegates than there will be for Barrios. Personally I think it would interesting if he drops out and then endorses Leone.

Only for statewide office. Middlesex county may be big, but it’s not all of Massachusetts.

No delegates but there will be plenty of people holding Leone signs and I think that they will outnumber the Barrios people. By delegates I suppose I meant supporters

Since my announcement to run for District Attorney I have received an overwelming amount of support throughout the county. However, because of my legislative record and the results I have achieved on Beacon Hill, manu many people have urged me to stay in the Senate and be the strong voice we have counted on over and over again.

I have enjoyed everyday of this campaign, and I looked forward to winning the election and serving as the district attorney. But the road I must choose right now is the one that is best for the people of Massachusetts. I’m statying is Senate. ( If I win re-election)
this “press release” is obviously the work of Ernie Boch III, not of the Barrios campaign.

Scott Harshbarger started out as Middlesex DA, then moved to AG, and then ran for Governor. When he moved to AG, he supported one of his assistants, Tom Reilly, for Middlesex DA, after which Reilly ran for AG and now for Governor. When Reilly moved to AG, he supported one of his assistants, Martha Coakley, for Middlesex DA, and she is now running for AG. So it is no surprise that Coakley and Reilly are supporting their former colleague, Gerry Leone, for Middlesex DA. Martha Coakley and Gerry Leone tried the Louise Woodward case together. What would be really shocking would be if Reilly and Coakley didn’t support Leone – now that would be a story.

Ok, maybe the Coakley endorsement is no surprise because, as you say, they worked together for many years…but don’t you think it’s telling that the people that Barrios works with so closely, namely, his colleagues in the legislature, are mostly lining up with Leone too?

In Middlesex County, look who’s with Leone: Senator Steve Pagiatakos (Lowell), Representatives Cory Atkins (Concord, Carlisle, Chelmsford, Acton), Paul Casey (Winchester, Stoneham), Mike Festa (Melrose, Wakefield), Barry Finegold (Tewksbury), Collen Garry (Dracut), Tom Golden (Lowell, Chelsmford), Geoff Hall (Westford), Jay Kaufman (Lexington, Arlington, Woburn), Steve LeDuc (Marlboro), Dave Linsky (Natick, Sherborn), Jim Miceli (Wilmington, Tewksbury), Charlie Murphy (Burlington, Bedford), Kevin Murphy (Lowell), Dave Nangle (Lowell), Alice Peisch (Natick), Pat Walrath (Stow)…and many more from out of the County.

Maybe these political endorsements are meaningless…or maybe they speak volumes.

I canât understand why anyone would be shocked that people are lining up behind Leone. Barrios was a terrible state rep who alienated all of his colleagues. He was progressive in name only while serving in the House.

It remains to be seen if any of his senate colleagues will step up to support his DA bid, but Iâm sure even his most loyal supporters arenât holding their breath. McNamara calling this an unfair fight could not be more dead on about where this race stands.

While he should drop out of this race and run for the senate, it may be more entertaining to watch him stay in get the beating he has deserved since 1998. Turn out the lights – the partyâs overâ¦

He voted to make Finneran speaker for life, he made a mockery of the Clean Elections Law and while he was setting up his senate campaign and playing footsie with Speaker Finneran, it was because of his total incompetence that Cambridge was carved to pieces in redistricting in late 2001 and lost its majority-minority seat:
