Addwaita, a giant tortoise who lived in the Calcutta zoo, has died. It is estimated that he was approximately – get this – 250 years old.

Mozart’s too-brief life; the American and French Revolutions; the construction of the first railroads; the creation of the Mormon religion; the Civil War; and a host of other events that the rest of us know about only from history books.
