Today the Bush Administration is reaffirming its policy of preemptive attacks on other nations that do not conform to our democratic and more importantly capitalistic world view. Whatever labels and feeble arguments are presented, the policy boils down to ” if your not like us your our enemy and we may attack when we wish”. The next target is Iran. Bolton is making his usual rumblings about the danger this country poses to us and world peace, followed by Condi’s verbal assaults, followed by Cheney’s warnings and now topping it all off with confirmation from Bush that Iran is an imminent and ongoing threat to ourselves and the world generally.
Your asleep if you can not see that the Bush administration is setting the stage for a military attack on Iran…and sooner rather than later. But thats ok…your sleeping might be forgivable but the sleeping of our Congressional leaders and representatives and the Media in general on this imminent event is not forgivable. Our govenmental leaders and the Press in general acquieced to the bullying nature of the Bushies and sat by like patsies while we attacked Iraq on the basis of hubris and lies – only to later complain that they were deceived but still lamely support the present assault on that nation based on the equally feeble logic that since we destroyed Iraq we must keep destroying it because its broken.
At any rate, we (and more importantly the Press, Media and Congress )now have a second chance to oppose and resist the Bush administration’s verbal and probably soon military attack on Iran. But, where are the Press and Congressional voices on this? Why do they not speak up and demand diplomacy, negotiations and most importantly proof that Iran is the threat Bush says they are? Now is the time to oppose the next invasion – not after its done – only again fall back on the lame excuse that its too late.
The Press and Congress failed our nation on Iraq and should not do so again on Iran. Remember that the Bush administration is dedicated to military expansion and are now so low in the polls that they have nothing to loose – a very dangerous situation indeed. A casual review of history shows that dictators and tyrants always arise in the absence of strong national leaders of character and courage. We seem to have none today and we may dearly pay the price tomorrow.
