Michael Forbes Wilcox told you it was coming, and here it is: Senator Andrea F. Nuciforo, Jr. will not seek reelection to the state Senate, opting instead to run for Middle Berkshire Register of Deeds. Nuciforo presently represents the Berkshire, Hampden and Franklin district which includes all of Berkshire county.
The Berkshire Eagle article describes Nuciforo’s decision as “an earthquake that shook Berkshire County’s political world.” But it does not speculate on who might succeed him (although apparently competition for the Register of Deeds office is going to be steep with three candidates already in).
Councillor Vickery, you interested? Update: Silly me. See Noho’s comment below.
Peter Vickery lives in Amherst (which is the Hampshire-Franklin district where Stan Rosenberg is the Senator). In addition, he has already announced that he isn’t going to run for reelection, opting instead to concentrate on his work for MassVoters.
David, the link to the Eagle article seems to have been changed. I found it at http://www.berkshireeagle.com/headlines/ci_3615544

This is indeed going to create a lot of buzz. I’ve heard several names tossed out there besides the ones mentioned in the article. I’ll be posting my impressions after the dust settles a bit.
This article is much longer than the short item I found last night, and mentions one name as a possible Senate candidate: Pittsfield Mayor Gerald Doyle. I don’t doubt that there will be others.
There’s no 1-year residency requirement for state senate. Anyone can run so long as they live in the district as of the election (Sept. 19).
Our own Margie Ware of MargeBLOG is running! She’s got a great write up about announcing her candidacy on her blog.

How cool is that?! Go, Margie GO!
In a press release Denis Guyer’s campaign says in part.

“It is an honor for me to represent the good people of the Second Berkshire District in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. I love the work that I do as a State Representative and I hope to stay right where I am and continue to serve for another term” said Guyer.
