Continuing its unflagging efforts to ensure that the first debate featuring the three Democratic candidates for Governor will be seen by as few viewers as possible, Channel 4 has announced the schedule of broadcasts and rebroadcasts for this weekend’s debate hosted by Jon Keller:
First broadcast (channel 4): Sunday, April 23, 8:30 am.
Rebroadcast (channel 4): Sunday, April 23, midnight.
Webcast (cbs4boston.com): Monday, April 24, 7:00 pm.
I assume that, by scheduling a “webcast” at a particular time, they are not going to just post the video of the whole thing on the site. If that’s the case, I very much hope that they reconsider that decision. The point of having a televised debate, one would assume, is to help inform the voters about their choices for the most important elected official in the state. Why wouldn’t you want to make it as easy as possible for as many voters as possible to see it?
OK, enough Channel 4 bashing. I’m really, really glad they’re stepping up and devoting valuable air time to a candidate debate when they could probably earn more ad revenue showing reruns of Power Rangers or whatever the young people watch on Saturday mornings these days. So kudos to Keller and the gang for doing it. Let’s just hope they go the extra mile and devote a little bandwidth to a video posted permanently on their website.
