Yeah there is a young woman challenging her. I can not remember her name, but she used to volunteer for Wilkerson and donated to her in the past. She also is using Wilkerson’s old campaign slogan. Funny I can remember that but not her name…
All the luck in the State? It’s a small state…couldn’t you at least wish her all the luck in New England? đŸ™‚

Seriously, though, Samiyah Diaz is running on the fact that she doesn’t have Wilkerson’s legal troubles. That’s not a platform. In the article Cos sites, she states that she believes in Republican values of “individual…responsibilities.” That’s a vague term that can mean many things, but in the hands of the Republican party (and many Democrats), it usually means bashing single mothers like herself.

Diaz may be a proud Republican. But by going with the GOP (after apparently shopping for a party), she is providing great PR to a party whose goals both violate what she herself says she belives in (i.e., same-sex marriage) and which has attacked people whose identity is like hers (single mothers of color). Whether she’s doing it out of real conviction, disgust with Wilkerson, or just plain opportunism, it doesn’t earn my support.

I’ve heard about Samiyah Diaz, who is running against Wilkerson as a Republican. Is that who you’re thinking of?

As far as I can tell, nobody (yet?) is running as a Democrat against Wilkerson.

Or at least hasn’t reported anything to OCPF.

She just formed her committee in February. Would she even have been required to file yet?
