Taking defiant swipes at “the left” and the press, he said he feels “liberated” and vowed to pursue an aggressive speaking and organizing campaign aimed at promoting foster care, Republican candidates and a closer connection between religion and government.
Wow. I feel liberated, too. Seriously, it’s good for everyone, Republican, Democrat, and independent alike.
UPDATE: In the comments, David points out this little tidbit from the Time article:
He said he will change his legal residence to his condominium in Alexandria, Va., from his modest two-story home on a golf course here in the 22nd District of Texas. “I become ineligible to run for election if I’m not a resident of the state of Texas,” he said, turning election law to his purposes for perhaps on last time.
You gotta chuckle at that. Ronnie Earle, Jack Abramoff and DeLay’s now ex-staffers chased him out of Texas to Virginia?
Now hey … what’s Santorum’s excuse?
david says
Word is also that he will resign soon rather than serve out his term. He’s also changing his state of residence to Virginia. All of which means that the Texas Republican party gets to name another Republican to run for the seat – recall that DeLay already won the Republican primary, so if he stayed in Texas but dropped out of the race the Democrats would automatically pick up the seat. Even in disgrace, he’s gaming the system.

but he’s certainly not stupid.

It’s the bribery and intimidation and money laundering and stuff I have a problem with.
david says
DeLay getting nailed for the stuff they’re nailing him for is like Al Capone getting nailed for income tax violations. The real harm DeLay caused was all legal (the redistricting being Exhibit A). (Maybe your “intimidation” falls within that category.) Don’t get me wrong – I’ll take it. But don’t lose sight of what he was really about.

Opening Day, Health Care might actually happen (on some level anyway), and now this.

That the Red Sox beat the Texas Rangers on this Opening Day that Tom DeLay calls it quits?
sco says
But Houston won.

Today wasn’t that great for everyone around here.
