Calling members of the blogosphere committed to truth, justice and the American Way. Kerry Healey’s bio at Wikipedia needs updating in preparation for her debutante, oops, sorry, debut at the Massachusetts GOP State Convention next week. At the moment, the only external website listed are the Office of the Lieutenant Governor, Healey for Governor, and Students for Healey.

is “fair and balanced” to me… Ha! But seriously, let’s get some real information on that Bush neo-con out there!

Are we HOLDING a national convention next week? Thought that was in 2008….

I think Bob means Republican State Convention, which is next weekend in Lowell.

but for the sake of Wikipedia’s credibility, let’s refrain from using it for political purposes.
bob-neer says
Right now, all it contains is Kerry Healey’s press pack. That’s why I think it needs updating.

For example, it only has external links to her official site and sites that support her re-election effort. The interesting Healy is a Fraud site, which presents an alternate viewpoint, is not included. There are many other examples.

Just checked Patrick’s bio, no balance there either. Sam Kelly’s is so nice, it includes a wedding photo. I agree with Argyle.

So, an entry which basically sticks to the undisputed facts of her life (She is the Lt. Governor you know) should be “improved” by linking to a site clearly opposed to her.

Sorry, count me out on that one.

Wikipedia’s “neutral point of view” does not mean “only link to positive sites”. External links are clearly labelled, in their own section, and are meant to provide readers with information. If you link to an “anti” site and label it as such, the quality of the Wikipedia entry is indeed improved. Same as if you link to the person’s own site, or to a “pro” site.
drgonzo says
Wikipedia is at a loss when all it posts is Healey PR material. A couple of Globe or Herald articles, as well some other web links, ought to get ’em started in the right direction.

assuming that people actually use Wikipedia for information, the last thing we need is more GOP lies.

I just added two things — a list of her four opponents (each of whom already have Wikipedia pages, that are now linked from Healey’s) and a link to the kerryhealeyoutoftouch blog, labeled “A blog opposing Healey’s candidacy for governor”.

I think this is neutral — we will see whether someone changes them back. I’m not familiar with the procedure to dispute neutrality if they do.
bob-neer says
Thanks. I personally do not want to see a biased attack on Healey on Wikipedia. I think that would be totally unproductive. But “neutral” means that all sides of an issue are considered, not just the one put out by her campaign staff. As to Wikipedia’s standards for neutrality, they are discussed at length on their standards pages. Just search for styles and neutral point of view.
