I attended the Pioneer Valley Symphony & Chorus concert on Sunday afternoon at the Fine Arts Center at UMass-Amherst. I’m quite proud of our community orchestra, which performs the bulk of its concerts in the Greenfield High School auditorium. On Sunday, the symphony performed Brahms’ German Requiem and BMG’s own David Kravitz sung baritone. As someone with an arts background myself (I have an MFA in poetry from UMass-Amherst, which is what brought me to the Bay State), I’m very pleased that BMG’s founders are also arts people. In the Valley Preview, director Paul Phillips sung Kravitz’s praises as a concert vocalist and I was tickled to see it, since I have known David mostly through his astute political commentary on this site. But I can now count myself a fan of his singing as well as his writing. Bravo, David!
