In a number of my posts and others at BMG there is a general consensus among the students of Political Science that based on the voting history of Massachusetts Gubernatorial campaigns the Liberal Democrat candidate will have a difficult chance to win in the General Election. Independents will once again maintain the equilibrium by voting in a conservative Republican or Independent. So why chase the windmill Deval? (no pun intended.)
I suggest that he is positioning himself for a run at Kerry’s seat. His ongoing pursuit for the Governorship is all practice for the next Senatorial election. The Gubernatorial campaign does wonders for your name recognition .
Even Independents like myself would vote for Patrick in order to rid us of that empty suit John Kerry.

I personally think Deval might be too much of a moderate to be an effective Senator: he might succeed as those like Barack Obama and John McCain have, but I think I’d prefer someone like Ted Kennedy or Barbara Boxer, a strong liberal (most of the time) who can argue that side in the legislature, to be the junior senator. Patrick is much more suited for the job of governor, in working from the center left to shift the debate and reach out in all directions to get things done for this state. That said, if Deval does not succeed this year, I would gladly support a campaign in 2008 once Kerry steps down.

Is this really the new Anti-Deval strategy? If so it is pretty sad.

Like I said… I’ve read a lot of your stuff rightmiddleleft, but this is the most lame.

I say that Reilly would make a great attorney in private practice.

Unfortunately, Deval Patrick will be only 2 years into his 4-year term as Governor in 2008. And, I doubt he can accomplish everything he wants to in 4 years, so we’ll have to elect him to a second term.

If you don’t want to support Patrick, you can find lots of reasons. He’s too liberal. He’s too corporate. He’s too rich. He doesn’t have enough money to self-finance his campaign. Hey folks! This is about who will make the best Governor.
