Following up on my Friday post about schoolkids trying to make Franklin the state inventor, Jon at Bostonist.com rags on Alex Beam for his faux-crankiness about making basketball the state sport.
It’s fantastic to give kids this kind of exposure to politics. Pass all the pointless bills you want, I say. It’s not like our elected officials are so productive that they can’t spare the time.
And with so much time spent on tough, divisive issues, it’s great to look for a few things we can all agree on. After all, who doesn’t love a little Wild Turkey?

H.B.1881 has been languishing for months. It got a favorable committee recommendation and was placed on the legislative calendar in January. DiMasi could pull it up for a vote any day he wants to. The only reason I hear it’s not happening is that the House is too busy and doesn’t have time to vote on this.

If we can declare a state inventor or a state sport, surely we can find some House time to put Massachusetts on the record in favor of civil liberties and reforming the Patriot Act.
