I’d just like to reinforce that I just love Al Gore — in a totally fraternal, heterosexual, football-tossing, chuck-the-chin, deodorant-ad kind of way, of course:
WASHINGTON – Is President Bush likely to see Al Gore’s documentary about global warming? “Doubt it,” Bush said coolly Monday. But Bush should watch it, Gore shot back. In fact, the former Democratic vice president offered to come to the White House any time, any day to show Bush either his documentary or a slide show on global warming that he’s shown more than 1,000 times around the world.
“The entire global scientific community has a consensus on the question that human beings are responsible for global warming and he has today again expressed personal doubt that that is true,” Gore said in an Associated Press interview from France where he attended the Cannes Film Festival.
This is an intervention, folks. Heck, the whole nation needs it. Don’t let him go, Al — or us.
The movie, called An Inconvenient Truth, hits local theaters June 2.
And in case anyone’s wondering, I would indeed seriously consider Gore ’08. (I’m sure no one’s wondering, but I would not consider Kerry ’08.)

I’m so looking forward to this movie, so glad to see it’s playing just down the street from me.

It will be nice when we get an administration that actually believes in science.

For president, I’m open to pretty much anyone but Hillary at this point. I have to admit though that Gore ’08 has a certain poetic justice ring to it.

I’m sorry. I couldn’t help that. I will calm down now.

I like Gore, but I hope he doesn’t run in 2008. Without instant runoff voting, having two high profile progressives in the race will make it harder for either of them to win, and I think Feingold is the far better candidate. Also, bluntly, Gore sucked as a presidential candidate, but seems to be doing great work these days, so I much prefer him as an ex-candidate doing his thing. Which I hope he keeps doing.

The global warming deniers need to be relegated to the distant past. As any objective rational person possessing scientific, chemical skills and knowledge knows, it is a fact that our carbon emissions and other green house gases are destroying the atmosphere as we know it. Personally, i have lived in fear for the future of our planet, fear for our progeny for decades now. We are very close to reaching the catastophic point of having doubled the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, and will likely exceed this limit within the next ten years. Just like snow banks melt in the spring, the glaciers on this planet will disappear rapidly once this threshold level is exceeded. Yet we continue to pump billions of tons of carbon from the inners of Mother Earth, combust them, releasing it into the air. The earth evolved over eons, with elements, compounds settling out into a fairly stable ecosystem that evolved into life as we know it. We all live within this delicate fluid called life on earth. Society over the past century in its vain comsumption is now at the threshold. Someday, our progeny will curse us. Yet far too many people live in denial of this fact, ignorant of their ways, arrogant in their vanity, wasteful in their consumption, with little thought to the future or respect for the beauty that exists all around us. The vast majority of society lacks common sense. How long do you think you would live inside your closed garage with the car running? Do some simple math. How many combustion machines exuding how many tons are needed before the atmosphere becomes poison? How many out there will take a few minutes to google some statistics and calculate the total volume of air on earth, the total number of cars, planes, engines, power plants, and integrate this? How many of you will objectively consider these words? Or will my comments be censorred once again from this site? And you folks have the gall to call our society free and open, you have the gall to persist in the misnomer of the United States being a true democracy. Shameful. Wake up people. Time is short. At the very least, go see the movie and consider for a moment that maybe , just maybe, there are some people out there who are smarter, more objective, more moral, than the NeoFascist propoganda machine that has ruled this land during my entire life. How many lies have to be proven before you admit that your ‘sources for news’ are all biased to the neoconservative denial of truth.

p> If Al Gore is serious about fixing our eminent atmospheric disaster, he would espouse the logical solution. Legalise industrial hemp. Convert our energy system to a reneweable organic agriculturally based system. End the Oil Age. Now ! We can grow our own fuel. Cellulosic fiber, biomass, biodiesel please. It worked well for Henry Ford’s first engine. It worked well for Betsy Ross’ flag and Levi Strauss’ jeans. It saved George Bush’s life in World War II. How many lawyers realize that the Constitution and Declaration of Independence, the two most famous documents which are paid the most lip service, are written on paper made from hemp? George Washington said of hemp, nature’s most useful and utilitarian plant; sow it everywhere. That is a true conservative value. Thank you very much.

Oh, and please, dont delete me this time. I’d like to participate in ‘democracy’, and enjoy a supposedly guarenteed right of freedom of speech. Please see the movie. Thank you for your consideration.

FYI, I deleted your previous comments because 1. they were identical, and 2. there was nothing in the the actual comment that said what your link was. It could have been anything, and I wasn’t going to click on it to find out. And if I felt uncomfortable with it, I didn’t feel that I should leave it up for others to find out what it was. We do get comment spam here, and your previous posts looked a lot like it.

You have freedom of speech, but so do we; this is our blog to do what we like with. It’s not hard to get one’s own.

If Gore runs, and I hope he does, I’m going to have a very hard time choosing between he and Russ Feingold. Basically, it would come down to this:
<
p>
Russ:
1. Strongly supports equality in marriage.
2. Doesn’t let the Democratic consultants/insiders push him around.
3. Voted against Iraq, the Bankruptcy Bill and was one of the few Democrats to have the guts to challenge the President while he has been stripping our rights.
<
p>
Al:
1. His work on Global Warming is inspiring!!
2. Has really come into his own since he lost – I don’t think he’d make the same mistakes again.
3. He already has one a plurality of American votes and by all accounts should have won Florida too – this would just be restoring what should have been.
<
p>
Despite the fact that I’m gay, I think global warming may even be a bigger issue to me than gay rights. What good is gay rights if the all the polar ice caps melt and scientists feel the need to create Catagory 6 hurricanes? If Al Gore were elected, global warming would be his big issue… and he could get the world behind us on it.

From AMC Theaters site:

Kansas City-based AMC Theatres, the No. 2 U.S. movie chain after Regal Theaters, said today (Tuesday) that it plans to set aside 72 screens in 39 U.S. cities to show traditional art-house fare. The exhibitor said that it planned to introduce independent and foreign film fare under a program dubbed “AMC Select.” Initial films under the program are due to debut this weekend, including the Al Gore global-warming documentary An Inconvenient Truth and Robert Altman’s A Prairie Home Companion. In an interview with today’s Los Angeles Times, AMC CEO Peter Brown said, “We are constantly thinking about how we can get more people to come to the theaters,” Brown said. “This is realizing the promise of the megaplex — we are broadening out the depth and breadth of the [movies] available.” The move puts AMC in direct competition with Mark Cuban’s Landmark Theatres, which operates 57 theaters with 213 screens, making it the nation’s largest art-house chain.

I LOVED that theatre when I was in DC last summer. It was exceptionally nice, clean, reasonably priced and had really good movies.

I’m glad to see other companies try to compete though… if they want to sell more tickets, they need to carry better movies… and indepedent films are often better movies. By carrying them at all, often times they can catch on. Just look at hits like “My Big Fat Greek Wedding,” that was out for months before it caught on in the Mainstream.

There is another topic, which has movies made and being made, which is of paramount necessity for an open public discourse. The topic : the truth of 9-11-2001. Unfortunately, i have not heard one politician in the main stream media discuss any of the valid questions, unexplained observances, and contradictions by the physical evidence to the widely accepted official explanation of what happenned that day. I have read the 9-11 Commission report, and have studied the questions raised of this report by people like Dr. David Ray Griffin, as aired on CSPAN last year. I have read the academic paper by Dr. Steven E Jones, physicist, BYU. I have viewed the myriad of media available online of television news from that day, and analyses by civil engineers. The fact remains, the official story of 9-11-2001, the reason the buildings collapsed that day DEFY THE LAWS OF PHYSICS. The World Trade Towers were designed to withstand collisions of planes, multiple planes. The steel used in their construction was arc forged and rated by UnderWriters Laboratories, as mandated by law, to withstand normal fires and fires from hydrocarbon combustion, without appreciable softenning or melting. Steel, especially arc forged steel, cannot be softenned appreciably by hydrocarbon combustion, jet fuel, a type of kerosene. I watched television live, the day of 9-11. I remember the many many reports of things exploding within the towers. I recall the eyewitness testimony on that day from fire fighters, police men, newscasters, citizens, who ran for their lives because things kept exploding inexplicably. Ever since 9-11, the main stream media, CNN, Fox, ABC, NBC,CBS etc… have failed to raise these questions, failed to air the very mention of explosions. Yet, a review of the available video evidence remains in the public domain. The link I posted the other day is the best overview of this subject that I have found. It contains an analysis of that day, with physical evidence and video to support its valid conclusions. The google link I posted is a compilation of history, public news broadcasts, and analysis of that day. I urge you all to consider these ideas, and investigate the information for yourselves. In particular, I urge you to watch the film entitled 911revisited which is available online. I wont post a link here. The other compelling online video is entitled 911 Loose Change 2nd edition, and is available for viewing in google’s video beta pages. High speed access required, as is the necessary media drivers. It has been far too long for a public discourse of these events. I would like a public official to discuss these ideas on television or in the main stream press. FYI, 911Revisited is being shown in a theater in Newton MA Wednesday night, May 24 for the first time. It is also available to order on DVD online. Our government lies to us all the time about everything. Thank you for this forum, your patience, and once again I apologise for my frustrations and for posting links.
