So reports WBUR. AP story here.
Does this end the story, or does it stay alive? I’d guess that Tom Reilly isn’t going to stop talking about it — he sent out a press release immediately hammering at Patrick:
One of the major differences between Deval Patrick and me comes down to one word – Ameriquest. While I fought them and helped get millions of dollars back for Massachusetts residents who were scammed by this predatory company, he was on their payroll.
Fits in with the “I Will Get Those Bastards” slogan, doesn’t it? The question is whether this will resonate with anyone else come September.
Please share widely!

It is simple
Reilly forces Ameriquest to pay millions of dollars to Massachusetts consumers.
Deval is paid millions of dollars from Ameriquest.
You do the math.

The Democrats should never support anyone who sells anything, buys anything, or processes anything as a career. Also, they should never support anyone who sells anything bought or processed, or buys anything sold or processed, or processes anything sold, bought, or processed, or repairs anything sold, bought, or processed. You know, as a party, they shouldn’t support that.

for the Say Anything quote – well done!

If AG Reilly continues to hammer Deval Patrick on Ameriquest, tax returns, etc., then he is just playing into the hands of the Republicans. The most important thing for the Democrats is to avoid beating each other up in the primary so that whoever wins is ready to fight in the general election. So far, from what I’ve seen, Deval Patrick and Chris Gabrieli are talking about the issues and their own leadership abilities, while AG Reilly is taking pot shots.

Go back 8 years and see what Tom Reilly did to Lois Pines in the Democratic Primary. I’m no fan of Lois Pines, but the negative campaigning by the Reilly campaign in that AG contest should let people know what Reilly is capable of – he can sling mud with the best of them. So Reilly’s focus on Ameriquest is nothing surprising – when you have nothing positive to say, try hitting the other guy as hard and as low as you can.
jimcaralis says
This is what Reilly does best – attack and criticize bad people doing bad things. He does this very well and has saved and recovered MA a lot of money. Nothing wrong with that.

But… I think he going to find it’s not as effective when you are attacking basically good people on issues that most voters don’t care about.
brightonguy says
The story wasn’t “Hey, Deval serves on the Ameriquest board”
<
p>
The story is:
1) Deval won’t say how much Ameriquest paid him
2) Deval was a part of Ameriquest’s unclearly shady goingson at Ameriquest
3) Deval supported Arnall’s Ambassadorship bid despite Arnall being a Bush stooge
<
p>
None of those three things have changed simply by Deval leaving the Board of Ameriquest.
<
p>
Further, it raises the question of Deval’s political posturing. He decides to leave the board a few days before the first big live debate, hoping to eliminate Ameriquest as an issue. Smacks of political posturing and evasiveness more than genuine sentiment.

If you’re reduced to dealing in innuendo, at least try to render it in intelligible English.

Whatever will the Reilly people talk about now? Tom’s progressive vision for our future?

That’s the third time I’ve read that exact reply by you… have any new, fresh ideas you’d care to share?
brightonguy says
Because it’s the third time I’ve seen the exact same (astroturfed?) defense of Deval. If you’re gonna post the same stuff, I’m gonna reply with the same points for the people that read the different blogs and the different posting strings. Concerned? Why attack me and my repeated posting instead of my actual point that the issue is Deval’s support for Arnall, not just his sitting on the board of Ameriquest – and for undisclosed amounts of money. You’re attacking me instead of addressing my issue…
sco says
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Your “issue” as you call it, as has been addressed, again, and again, and again… it doesn’t seem to make any difference.

I have a feeling that the Deval-haters are disappointed that they won’t have Ameriquest to smack Deval over the head with anymore. Now we’re going to talk about the issues, and the haters aren’t going to like that as much, I expect.

On my blog, when I read your comment the first time. The second time I rad your comment, I linked to my response. The third time? No way.

doesn’t get any better with age, nor with repetition.

It’s also a complete distraction from what the real issues are. Maybe that was the whole idea?
ryepower12 says
At least he didn’t suggest Deval waited for the bad weather to reveal this stunning shocker of evil Patrick treachery!
