Got this from Sen. Jehlen’s office; I’ll put it on the calendar. I’ll be out of town, but this event might interest some BMG folks — it would be great if someone would cover it and write it up!

Senator Jehlen and Local Legislators Host Town Meeting Briefing for the Community on the State Budget
WHAT: A Town Meeting Forum on Massachusetts FY ’07 Budget with Noah Berger, Mass Budget and Policy Center, and Harris Gruman, Neighbor to Neighbor Massachusetts.
WHO: State Senator Patricia Jehlen, State Representative Paul Casey, State Representative Paul Donato, State Representative James Marzilli, State Representative Patrick Natale, State Representative Denise Provost, State Representative Carl Sciortino and State Representative Timothy Toomey
WHERE: Grace Church Parish, 160 High Street, Medford (parking in rear of the Church)
WHEN: Thursday, May 4, 2006, 7:00-9:00 pm
Faced with increased revenue demands and a finite amount of resources, legislators are immersed in the process of developing Massachusetts FY ’07 Budget. Over the past 5 months local officials, advocacy groups and constituents have voiced their concerns regarding the state’s prospective budget for FY ’07. Senator Jehlen and local legislators will host an event with budget and policy experts to educate the community to the fiscal climate of Massachusetts, the budget process and most importantly, how the budget will directly affect them.
The event is open to the public. At the conclusion of the presentation attendees will have the opportunity ask questions of their legislators. Refreshments will be served.
Senator Jehlen has been doing these annually for years (as Representative Jehlen). She really wants her constituents to understand what goes on in the state budget. I’ve unfortunately missed them all so far š But they were well known in Somerville and part of why she’s so well respected by residents who aren’t necessarily deep into electoral politics.
