Not that it was very hard to get around it before, but the Herald has officially ditched its “subscribers only” policy for opinion columnists. From now on, you can increase your blood pressure by reading Howie Carr, Ginny Buckingham, and Joe Fitzgerald just by heading over to the Herald’s web site. And you can – and should – also read Wayne Woodlief, one of the best political columnists writing today (and an awfully nice guy to boot – I met him at the convention).
Good call by the Herald. I can’t imagine that more than a handful of people actually paid to read their columnists online, and they’ll certainly get more readers this way.
Please share widely!
So I just went and read Howie Carr’s latest comment, which was a screed about suburbs turning too progressive for Carr’s taste. The fact that he’s paid for writing this stuff amazes me.

The best part, though? Where does Carr, this self-styled man of the people standing up to “liberal elitists” in the suburbs, acutally live? Dorchester? Southie? Not quite…according to Wikipedia, Howie goes home each night to Wellesley! Some populist.
