From the mid-day update of the Cape Cod Times:
“Congressional leaders today reached a compromise that strips language from a Coast Guard reauthorization bill that would have given the governor the power to stop the proposed Nantucket Sound wind farm project specifically.
Instead, language would give the commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard “definitive responsibility” to decide whether the project poses threats to navigation and craft terms that would eliminate adverse impacts.
The compromise is far less restrictive than an amendment floated last year by U.S. Rep. Don Young, an Alaska Republican, that would have banned all wind turbines within 1 1/2 miles of shipping and ferry lanes.”
An ‘Alaska Republican’ promted by a Hyannisport Democrat! It’s still a long way to go, but as a Cape Codder – this is GREAT news!

and that’s the position the anti-Cape Wind folks were in. They tried all sorts of things to scuttle the project, but every single one of them could only be considered temporary. Kudos to Cape Wind, Clean Energy Now, and the assorted environmental groups who kept the pressure on Kennedy (and Kerry) during his re-election year.

Still, it ain’t done until it’s done. Since I believe that off coast wind power (along with wind power on land, solar, and biomass) are all essential to the future of New England, I’m supporting Deval Patrick for governor — I believe that he is the only candidate with the genuine interest in working hard to promote green energy in the region, recognizing that the small downside of green energy (aesthetics, etc) is far smaller than the huge downside of our current plan — burning natural gas, coal, and oil for electricity.

Gabs pays it lip service, but he seems to say anything to get elected… I don’t believe it’s important to him to get green energy done; just important enough to help him get elected.
