*******update***********
I called my two state legislators. On both occasions I was only able to talk to their secretaries. I was told by my repâs friendly secretary that my state representative was very supportive of the amendment and they asked me for my contact info to send me a letter. My state senatorâs secretary was another story, he sounded annoyed and when I asked him if the senator supported the healthcare amendment he said that his boss “did not make decisions until he had all the facts”
Please contact your state representatives which you can find here
and urge them to vote yes on the Healthcare constitutional amendment. This amendment is essential to making sure that current healthcare reforms are not abandoned and that if they do fail legislators will have a constitutional obligation to try again.
I think it’s important to pass this amendment. Proponents of universal healthcare frequently say they support it because healthcare is or at least should be a right.
<
p>
Well, the basis of our rights come from the Constitution, so I think it’s time we stop saying it’s a right and actually make it a right.
Kill it.
if the amendment is enacted! 🙂
every politician is for ‘universal healthcare’. hell, even george w. bush claimed it as a desired goal in the last campaign (of course his idea of acheiving that was health ‘savings’ account tax giveaways to the rich and healthy.)
<
p>
so your representative pontificating about universal healthcare is all well and good, but about as meaningful as coming out in favor of puppy dogs and freedom.
<
p>
what this amendment does id codify the promises that your representatives have made to you and to the tv cameras.
<
p>
sal dimasi will say ‘trust me’ and that this amendment is not necessary because the lives and health of the citizens of the commonwealth are now under his caring tutelage. and i hope that he’s right. and if that is so, an amendment holding him to that claim should not be very controversial, right?
<
p>
so please contact your reps today, and thank them for talking the talk and let them know that you want to make sure that all of the others actually walk the walk
Hello thanks for the feedback all. I wish I had made the article more of an argumentative appeal to voters but I am new here and I kind of rushed this story. Apparently we can not edit articles if they are promoted to the main page? I called my two state legislators. On both occasions I was only able to talk to their secretaries.

Please take 3 minutes ASAP to call and leave a quick message for your own Legislators and for Senate President Travaglini, even if you’ve called them before!
<
p>
Say you support the Health Care Amendment and ask them to BRING IT UP FOR A VOTE AND TO VOTE YES on it tomorrow, July 12, 2006.
<
p>
State House main # is 617-722-2000 and Sen. Travaglini’s direct line 617-722-1500. To find out who your legislators are go to below link, or just call Sen. Travaglini.

Itâs easy and effective. Call, leave a quick message with your name, that you are a voter — and a nurse, doctor, patient, plumber, etc — and ask that they please VOTE YES on the Health Care Amendment July 12 in the legislature so that you can vote yes on it in November.
<
p>
PLEASE CALL TODAY 7/11, or Wed. 7/12 by 11 a.m. to know that you helped establish health care as a permanent right for all state residents and end uninsurance in Massachusetts FOREVER. Each call DOES make a difference.
<
p>
-Thank you, Ann Eldridge Malone, RN & thousands of other clinicians & volunteers.

Background:
<
p>
This campaign began over 3 years ago and has required a huge amount of work, most of it done by scores of volunteer citizen-activists including many healthcare professionals. If we do not get the legislative vote tomorrow, on 7/12/06, the entire 3-year campaign will die.
<
p>
The Health Care Constitutional Amendment language, as quoted here, will provide the needed legal AND political tools to:
â… ensure that no Massachusetts resident lacks comprehensive, affordable and equitably financed health insurance coverage for all medically necessary preventive, acute and chronic health care and mental health care services, prescription drugs and devices.â
<
p>
But, for the Health Care Amendment to move on to the Novenber ballot and pass, it requires at least 50 legislators to vote yes on it 7/12/06. The recent healthcare law, Chapter 58, does some good but not enough; we must guarantee affordable care for all and the Amendment will give us the needed legal AND political tools. Together, we can do this for ou patients, our communities and for future generations, but to get there we must win the Health Care Amendment vote on July 12 and then on the Nov. 7 statewide ballot.

IF YOU CAN ONLY DO ONE THING, PLEASE CALL Senate President Travaglini’s DIRECT LINE 617-722-1500 and ask that he VOTE YES on the HEALTH CARE AMENDMENT.
<
p>
(Many of us are also leaving messages about the 7/12 vote on another amendment that seeks to ban equal marriage, so feel free to use your voice on that issue too)

Has anyone considered what effect this sort of legislation would have on job creation?
<
p>
If it passes, perhaps you can get Matt Amerello to run the state’s healthcare system.
This won’t effect jobs. Doom and gloom, Shepard, is that all you have? Oh, that’s right. I forgot distortion.
