Uh, Where is Worcester & Middlesex?
The communities that make up the senate district are: Bolton, Clinton (Precincts 1,2), Fitchburg, Gardner, Lancaster, Leominster, Lunenburg, Sterling and Westminster in Worcester County and Ashby and Townsend in Middlesex County. Each senate district is represented by four committee members. 2 men and 2 women. Right now our representatives are from Clinton, Fitchburg and Leominster. My opponent is from Leominster.
Why Run?
I am running for State Committeewoman because I believe in building a stronger Democratic organization on a local level and we do that by working together with all the communities in the senate district. My motivation is to represent all the communities in the senate district, but I also feel that it is important for the smaller communities to have a voice on the state committee as well.
Why Me?
Most of you know me as a blogger, but I am also Chair of the Townsend Democratic Town Committee. I am a member of the Progressive Democrats of Massachusetts and an active member of Democracy for America. I have had the opportunity to work with many gifted democratic activists, and I plan to bring that energy and experience to my work with the state committee.
The key issues of my platform are involvement and accountablility. I pledge to attend as many DSC meetings as I am able to, regardless of location and to learn as much as I can and then I plan to bring that knowledge back to the senate district. I further pledge to attend at least two meetings a year of each town/ward/city committee in the senate district in order to update the local committees on what is going on at the state committee and bring any issues or concerns they may have back to the state committee. I will also maintain a mailing list to share information and events within the senate district.
The Democratic Party works best when it is motivated and organized. I am a true believer in the power of grassroots organizing and I will bring that focus and energy to the state committee and our senate district.
How Can I Vote For You? / What can I do to help?
I would appreciate your support and I need your vote! The election will take place at a Senate District Conference on Saturday, August 19 at 11:00 AM at the Wallace Civic Center in Fitchburg.
Right now across the senate district town/ward/city committees are holding meetings to elect attendees to the Senate District Conference. You need to be a registered Democrat but you do not need to be a member of the town/ward/city committee to be eligible to be elected as a conference attendee.
I was hoping to have a list to post of town/ward/cities and the date of their meetings, but I’m finding that many committees have not scheduled them yet. If you live in the senate district, or know someone who does and would like to help my candidacy, click here to find out who is your town/ward/city committee Chair. Contact them to find out when the meeting to select district conference attendees will be in your area. I will post updates regarding the scheduling of meetings to select conference attendees when I get the information.
On a personal note, I’d like to thank my blogging pals and fellow democratic activists friends who have supported me and encouraged me to run for this seat. Regardless of how this race turns out, and believe me, I am very realistic regarding my chances, it’s been a great experience.

I’m going to need all the luck I can get (and a low turnout from the cities wouldn’t hurt either g)

For those of you who don’t know Susan, this woman is an unstoppable super volunteer and organizer. She will single-handedly deliver Townsend and the surrounding communities to Deval Patrick in September because of her ability to connect with people. She is an organizing tour de force and is a perfect match for the DSC. If you live in the area of Susan and can help her out I can promise you that the state committee will be better for it and progressives will get a much needed voice on the committee. Her commitment is unquestionable as is her dedication to making the Party better. With Susan on the committee you don’t get another hack, you get someone dedicated to builing bridges and making the Party a worthwhile endeavor.

And if all that is not enough Susan is for COX and she is DAMN PERSONABLE. Thank you for listening and I am sorry for the warm the fuzzy that this may put out, I just have had the opportunity to get to know Susan a little and can’t speak highly enough of her, as they say, she is good people.

Susan, what can those of us who don’t live in your district do to help?
<

The DSC needs people like you. How can we make this happen?
michael-forbes-wilcox says
And, like Sco, I’d like to know what we outside your District can do to help.

I mean, wow, who’da thunk that being a member of PDM would be a credential! Go Susan!
susan-m says
See my comments to sco and thanks so much for your kind offer of help. 🙂
<

Well, to you folks PDM is a credential. I’m hoping that to other folks it’s not a red flag. 😛
susan-m says
If you know of anyone who lives in W&M (especially anyone on a town/ward/city committee) and if you were willing to call them on my behalf, that would be very helpful (and greatly appreciated!) but if that isn’t possible, if you could just keep your fingers crossed for me that would be cool too. 🙂

chair in a town abutting Sterling, I’d like to help if there’s anything we can do. I’m not at all clear on the state committee stuff, so a primer might be in order. We have a town committee meeting on the 12th, so let me know.

This is a great overview of the DSC election process. The only difference is now all the seats are 4 year seats.

I’m not an expert on the rules so if there are other changes, I’m sure someone will chime in.

I would love to have an opportunity to talk to the Sterling DTC. I’ve left messages, but I haven’t heard back from the Chair yet. If you have an in with the Chair, that would be very helpful — I just need to get my foot in the door.

I’ll be in Westminster tomorrow night and Lunenburg next week.

So many great comments I don’t know where to start, so I’ll just lead off with a big THANK YOU! It’s been very busy in Beyond 495 land today so I haven’t been around as much as I’d like, but that didn’t stop folks from calling me and e-mailing me and asking what they could do to help.

I wished I had the words to better express how kind this community has been to me and how much I appreciate it. I hope a big ole THANK YOU will cover it. You folks are rock stars!
