Tim appeared in an article July 16th in the Globe for…!oyva! reaching out to Spanish-speaking voters.

Tim aparecio en un articulo el 16 de Julio en el Globe por haber lanzado a los votantes hispanohablantes.

  It’s not just during campaign season, though. Ask any of the Spanish-speakers in Worcester sporting “Apoye a Nuestro Alcalde” (support our mayor) bumper stickers: they’ll tell you that Tim cares deeply and honestly about keeping an open dialogue with the Spanish/hispanic community, and he’s willing to do what’s necessary to realmente hablar con toda la gente (really speak with all the people).

Pero no es solo durante las campanas. Pregunte a cualquier de los hispanohablantes en Worcester con una pegatina del parcacoches que dice “Apoye a Nuestro Alcalde:” se diran que Tim se preocupa mucho de tener un diologo abierto con la comunidad hispanohablante y que esta dispuesto a hacer lo que tenga que hacer para poder hablar con toda la gente.

  I’ve loved seeing the connections and commitments Tim has in the Hispanic community everywhere we go. I’ve been to standouts and used my Espanol. I’ve taken calls in Spanish, and moreover that’s how Tim wants it.

Me encanta ver las coneciones y compromises que tiene Tim con  la comunidad latinoamericano en cualquier ciudad o pueblo que visitamos. He usado mi Espanol en los demonstraciones con pancartas.  He hablado por telefono con electores en Espanol, y, sobre todo, asi es como la quiere Tim.

I hope the Hispanic community can see in Tim the friend that I do every day and join me in wishing him buena suerte and offering him all the apoyo we can muster.

Espero que la comunidad latinoamericano se pueda ver en Tim el amigo que veo yo diariamente y que me unan en dandole mi voto y mi apoyo.

Anyone have turnout numbers for 2002 broken down by language spoken/demographic community?  I ask because I wonder if a higher turnout amongst blingual voters in the Worcester area will make a dent in the primary race for LG.  My hunch is it won’t, but given that this article appeared and given that we have our first-ever statewide candidate fluent in Spanish and Portuguese running in this same race (Andrea Silbert), will things be different this year?

    P.S. – Interesting that with all this attention, the Murray camp still hasn’t translated its webpage into Spanish.  But they did say in the article they intended to do some multi-lingual messages there.  Also note that this message is cross-posted from Tim’s interns’ blog.

  2. Does Murray? It seems to me if language ability is the issue for discussion, the Murray camp should be hesitant about raising it — unless he is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese. Is he?

    • but so what?  He’s making an effort to go into those communities, and he got some excellent free media out of it.  Sounds like a successful strategy to me.  If I were Silbert, I’d be annoyed that Murray was the one who got top billing in that article, and I’d wonder why it wasn’t me.

      • Why is the Globe boosting Murray, and what have they got against Silbert, who actually worked with street kids in Brazil and speaks both languages! It’s shocking, and deeply irresponsible. 😉

        • Two Murray front pages in two days.  I guess their whining about BMG favoring Silbert really paid off.  Maybe they whined also to the Globe about the Andrea coverage’s two weeks ago in the same space.
