Survey USA poll of Governors’ approval ratings, 7/20/06:
Romney: 48% approve, 48% disapprove, #36 as sorted by approval rating. The other 4% think Gov. King is doing a fine job. Or something.
Seriously, is this a great jumping-off point to run for President? Shouldn’t your constituents have thought you did a bang-up job when you aim for a promotion? The general feeling one gets from these polls is of hosts patiently waiting for that last party guest to leave before they start chucking bottles in the recycling.

these data were collected 7/14-7/16. The tunnel collapsed on the evening of 7/10. But it’s really only this week that Romney has been in full “take-charge” mode, with his magic markers and hardhats. I would wager that his approval rating would be several points higher if the poll were taken today.

I’m surprised his ratings are that high.

I’m sure this will be spun as pretty good for a republican in ultra-liberal Massachusetts. I am somewhat surprised its that high, too.

I think Massachusetts is not as liberal as its national reputation would have you believe.

I have always contended that the fastest way for Mitt to build a NATIONAL reputation is to be REJECTED by Massachusetts!

Bring ’em all up here, then! We’ll reject them all!
