When Mark Roosevelt, Democratic nominee for Governor in 1994 debated Governor Weld he said, “Governor, you are not a corrupt man, but your administration is.”
He was right, and last night’s tragedy may be one of the results.
How did it happen? Here’s one idea floating around.
1. Bill Weld thought it would be neat to governor.
2.So he worked his butt off, spent money, teamed with Cellucci and got the nomination
3. Then he got the benefit of Frank Bellotti being a crybaby because he lost and endorsing him against the Democrat John Silber. Frank then introduced him to his all-star fundraiser, Peter Berlandi, who became a household name in the mid 90s.
4. After beating John Silber, Bill Weld had fun. But hated the working part of the governorship. And he was loyal and thankful. So he gave carte blanche to many people, with the most power going to Cellucci.
5. Cellucci, a known gambler, with an inexplicably large debt ($800,000 I believe) was given the keys to many rooms.
Suddenly we’re seeing teamsters almost getting movie studios built, movie executives refusing to work here, Big Dig contracts given to underbidding restaurateurs/farmers (Les Marino), Big Dig oversight contracts given to parent companies of those they are overseeing, administration officials turning their backs on blatant wrongdoings.
Now we have Romney and Reilly turning it into a political opportunity with no substance. Itâs too easy, and not really fair, to blame Amorello. I blame the republican administrations.
For Kerisiotes.
But you can’t edit polls. Let’s pretend Whitey Bulger is Kerisiotes.
“A vote for Whitey is a vote for Kerisiotes. Another Jim.”
Isn’t it all their fault?
What if it was a materials failure that caused the catastrophe and not a failure of the architecture, engineering or installation? What if the steel tie-back just suffered a sudden fracture? I guess in that case you just blame the village smithy.

Under a spreading chestnut-tree
The village smithy stands;
The smith, a mighty man is he,
With large and sinewy hands;
And the muscles of his brawny arms
Are strong as iron bands.
HOW MANY TIMES did I drive under those panels with nothing but Gorilla Glue holding it up? BTW, I think it’s the rain that caused the decomposition.

SO – in 1999, a problem was discovered and a plan was even developed to deal with said problem. Now, they are trying to find out of anybody DID implement said bolt plan between 1999 discovery and the 2002 eparture of…

Kerasiotes!!!! Uh, Bulger!
We know that there was a problem discovered in 1999 but we do not know if the problems revealed then directly caused the failure of the ceiling panels this week. We need to wait and see what the investigation reveals. The glue was not the only thing hold up those panels. The epoxy supposedly was used to supplement the steel bolt system that actually suspended the huge car squashing segments.

While we will not know all of the causes of this disaster for some time to come what we do know is enough to drive a man to drink. The tunnel leaks and is bumpy, ugly and now we come to find, deadly. I guess we should find out how much will it cost to erect a new central artery.
