JULY 24, 2006
Candidate for State Rep. Lawrence “Lonnie” Brennan launches www.beatbarb.com website.
“In this life, you get judged on three things: what you say, what you do, what you don’t do. Our current Rep. chose not to take a vote on the marriage amendment, instead delaying her vote until two days AFTER the Fall election. What is she afraid of? She’s had two years to think about the issue, plenty of time to review a state record of more than 170,000 signatures, plenty of time to review the constitution and plenty of time to review the history of our American system of government, and plenty of time to poll the voters.
Yes, no. Take a vote. Instead, she ducked the issue, putting it off until after her re-election bid. Is this cowardice what she considers representation?” said challenger Lawrence “Lonnie” Brennan, selectman, town of Georgetown.
“My issues are education, taxes, housing, seniors, and the environment,” Brennan said. “We need to take decisive action to protect our finances, our communities, our schools, our environment and our seniors. As state rep, I WILL NEVER, EVER, TAKE A VOTE NOT-TO-VOTE on an issue until 2-days AFTER the NOV. ELECTION. WHAT A COWARDLY ACT by our Rep. Just one more reason to thank Barbara for her time served, and get someone new in the seat who will act without fear, without favor. Someone who will work to control taxes, and protect our children, and who won’t be controlled by heavy spending special interest groups.”

If you can come up with a second issue to campaign on, get back to us, will you?
eb3-fka-ernie-boch-iii says
It’s not about you. We don’t care if you’re an “International K of C 2006 Family of the Year Award Winner”. You forgot to also mention your Little League trophies.
<
p>
But that must make you anti-choice. Is the candidate anti-choice also?
joe-soucy says
Since this 2006 award was awarded in 2006, I don’t believe Little League trophies comment appropriate. (especially since I never played Little League)
<
p>
However, on the Anti-Choice front, it is your choice to remain ignorant, and I certainly will do nothing to stand in your way.
<
p>
Now if the choice which concerns you is whether I think the government should allow and finance the killing innocent pre-born babies, as in ABORTION, than you can say I AM ANTI-ABORTION. But I prefer the term pro-life, since I support the protection of HUMAN LIFE from conception to natural death.
<
p>
I will let my candidate answer for himself as to his views.
<
p>
Oh, yeah, and I’m a Democrat.
<
p>
Vivat Jesus.
lonnie-brennan says
Hey, Joe, that’s my fault. I’m proud to have you sign onto the campaign, and happy to be one of the first to have congratulated you on your award.
<
p>
A lot of folks on these blogs just like to have fun poking dogs, ripping legs off spiders and such…..
salvor says
Talk about being a coward..how about refusing to sign a warrant for the article that would allow the voters of Georgetown to decide on whether to dedicate surplus Chapter 70 monies to the schools to placate his Republican Base then standing up and supporting the article at town meeting when the room was full of school supporters..now there you have a coward.

2. I believe in OPEN GOVERNMENT.
The WARRANT was voted in OPEN meeting.
The WARRANT was given to the PRESS at an OPEN meeting.
Three days later when the WARRANT came back from the lawyers with the word “draft” removed, and the proper date inserted, and with the lawyer’s final blessing,
I SIGNED THE WARRANT THAT WE VOTED FOR IN OPEN MEETING.
I SIGNED THE WARRANT THAT WE GAVE TO THE PRESS.
I SIGNED THE WARRANT THAT WAS APPROVED BY OUR LAWYERS.
I SIGNED AT LEAST SEVEN COPIES OF THE WARRANT FOR POSTING AROUND TOWN BY THE CONSTABLE WHO WAS IN ATTENDANCE, WAITING TO GO POST IT.
<
p>
THEN, my DEMOCRATIC commrades on the Board of Selectmen PULLED A LAST-MINUTE SUBSTITUTION of LANGUAGE and instead presented a NEW WARRANT, NEVER BEFORE SEEN BY ANYONE. A NEW WARRANT THEY HAD PRINTED THEMSELVES. THEY SLID IT ACROSS THE TABLE AND SAID SIGN THIS. I told them they were nuts. I’m not going to sign a second warrant.
<
p>
They chose to sign their own version to post the meeting with a change of language, which gave a FALSE top line number, way beyond what we could expect to receive. I don’t fault them for doing it. They wanted a cap. But the cap made NO sense, being almost double the Ch. 70 funding. I understood what they wanted to do, but the meeting was posted to SIGN the WARRANT, NOT ARGUE AND PRESENT A CHANGE
<
p>
So, keep trying with your hate-speak, but your facts don’t reflect reality.
salvor says
If the money could only have been spent on the schools then why the need for the warrant? Secondly if you felt the warrant was defective why did you stand up at town meeting and support it? Thirdly, the “stink” put up by the head of Democratic Party in town was about process not the money going to the schools. He did not like the fact that the FINCOM had not been consulted.
<
p>
Another example of “Lonnie Speak”.
<
p>
As to “hate speak” you are the master..going back to your slanderous and libelous statements made about Tillie Evangelista when you headed up the recall movement and carried forward in your current campaign. Nobody has done more to discourage volunteerism and civic involvement in Georgetown than you have with your viscious behavior against those you don’t agree with.
lonnie-brennan says
Finding an appropriate reply to your slams and bomb tossing is, I am sure, impossible.
<
p>
I’ll leave it that you have anger and leave it at that. Enjoy your blogging. If you ever want to disarm, just give me a call.
<
p>
I never start a fight, but I never run from one.
salvor says
When faced with the truth you respond with ad hominem attacks. Accuse people of being bomb throwers.
<
p>
As for never backing away from a fight. You are too much of a coward to stand your ground. You can only write letters or post lies on your website. Two weeks ago when you stood face to face with the ZBA you told them how great they are. Now that you are pandering to another local group in town you are inferring on your website that they are doing something ‘unsual’ by continuing the hearing on cell phone towers.
<
p>
I laugh everytime I think about the time you came face to face with me after calling me a liar on your website and practically ran in the other direction.
<
p>
Don’t wait by your phone, I won’t be calling anytime soon.
lightiris says
you’d get my vote at exactly the moment hell freezes over solid enough to skate on.
<
p>
Then again, I don’t live in your district.
<
p>
BTW, just to be clear, I’d vote for the dead mouse decomposing into something of a gelatinous blob on my scary basement floor before I’d vote for a Republican. Just thought you’d like to know.
<
p>
lonnie-brennan says
I really don’t expect your vote. But, I think it’s fair to let you know that I’m here, I’ve put myself forward, I’m on the ballot.
<
p>
I find it amazing how many folks toss grenades from the sidelines, while hiding anonymously behind computer screens on ultra-liberal and on ultra-conservative blogs. There are Republicans who stink, and there are Democrats who stink. Perhaps worse than your mouse…….
lightiris says
on this site if you care to read back. I hold a local elected office, and that’s no secret.
<
p>
That said, there’s no doubt that there are stinky Democrats out there. Generally, however, we just try to weed ’em out. Your party should try the same. I know a lot of folks who used to consider themselves Republican, your basic Rockefeller Republican, but boy, they don’t now.
lonnie-brennan says
I’m thankful to anyone who steps up and serves in public office. Yes, there are a lot of Republicans who could use to be weeded out. Ditto for Democrats.
<
p>
I posted new on this site, and from what I can see, it’s as biased towards Dems as some of the Repub sites are biased towards Repubs. Nature of the beasts I guess…..
charley-on-the-mta says
Well, yeah. “Blue Mass. Group”. But welcome, anyway.
