these are names of recent times. Go back further and its the same thing. History is against the long talked about ‘next mayor’. Mike got 17,000+ votes in last election. About 100,000 voted. At Large high vote getters are notorious for not winning the gold mayors cup.
Flaherty can put together Republican run w/o real harm.
4. Flaherty ran Ralph Martin’s campaign in South Boston in 1994. Ralph, the Black Republican appointed by Gov. Weld to fill Newman Flannigan’s seat, got 49% of the vote in Southie; beating an experienced white Democratic prosecutor with the nice Irish last name of Malone.
As a result Flaherty has friends, including Ralph Martin, who can easily help get other Republicans in Suffolk County to write in his name in September.
5. Flaherty has been running city wide for years. He has an organization and city politics is not party politics. He knows many independents and republicans who he can organize for September.

7. Flaherty has an organization that is well tooled and knows what to do. He has friends on City Council and enemies. All should help in their own way. Don’t forget enemies want him gone too. Plus John Connolly wants him to go so he can step into council seat. Should be many helpful people.
8. Dan Conley non- fan club. Brian Honan fans. (see #6)And his brother , Rep. Kevin Honan. Dan Conley does not have many fans in Boston legislative delegation, just like City Hall. And Mike Sr, still has friends up there.
A small small group will help Conley and many many will quietly push Flahertry. Which means you will see their “people” openly working for Flahertry. Angelo Scaccia will probably be outfrount for Flaherty. Flaherty will have some friends on Suffolk County’s dark side of the moon; Chelsea, Revere, and Winthrop. Ways and Means Chair Bob DeLeo of Winthrop won’t get involved. Wink wink nod nod. (Who knows? The Flahertys know)
9. Don’t forget all the people that would like to see him out of the way for their own possible mayor’s run. Jack Hart, Steve Lynch, Marty Walsh. Marrion Walsh,
10. Conley has no organization. Just D.A. office employees holding signs at Forrest Hills.

Better Chance than Becoming Mayor (now)
13. The Flahertys know this can be pulled off. They also know mayor’s race is a crap shoot. D.A.s job allows him to be on TV and in the paper all the time; he doesn’t have to be at every event; he can watch his kids grow; he can take a nice eight or 12 year breather and put some wrinkles on that baby face; hell have many good jobs to hand out allowing him to build a favor chit bank; and he can build up a good state pension;
And he will be a Republican progressive D.A.
12. Years from now he can run for mayor, governor, AG, who knows? As a Republican he can easily become governor someday. The Flahertys know what to do. ( I am serious, not being sarcastic. Mike Flaherty and his father are first rate strategists.)
