It isn’t often that one gets to praise a conservative blog, but here’s an entry that is spot on!
“Patrick by a landslide” they declare.
How much does this matter? I’d say it’s not just the money. If people are willing to invest their own cash in a candidate, they’re likely to go to their friends and neighbors and urge them to support him, too. That’s my hope, anyway.
I’d say it’s a good sign; one might even call it a harbinger…

That the GOP is watching our primary? I would imagine so.

More notable is the fact that the extended entry is largely an attack on Chris Gabrieli (the punchline: “Apparently, Gabrieli isn’t all that intelligent”). Deval Patrick is the object of Republican praise and Gabrieli the subject of its attacks. Who would you rather be?

Your speculation that “the GOP is watching our primary” is in the present tense, and therefore doesn’t qualify. I guess I must have been thinking about something else.

I’d rather be a Democrat, but thanks for asking.

I just can’t get past your condescending manner — so I misunderstood a word. I’m sure blockquoting it and spinning out the joke was good for a right ol’ chuckle, hm yes, and a great way to feel superior.
<

Regardless, you’re welcome to hope all you want that 2,100 people talking up a candidate is a harbringer sign (big words hurt my brain oh so much) of victory in the coming primary.
<

Incidentally, there were over 750,000 votes cast in the 2002 primary. Join us next week as we examine chicken bones for harbingers of the chances this season of the New England Patriots (pA-trE-&tz: a local squad of players who compete in a lowbrow sport beneath your notice.)

By the way, it was a great way to ignore the implications meaning of the fact that Gabrieli is now the Republicans’ top attack target.

I’ll try to use short words.

You refer to
but that went over my head.
<

I’ve seen quite a few Republicans around here supporting Patrick. I guess you’re proud that
but I think I’d rather have their support.
michael-forbes-wilcox says
I see what you refer to:
I was confused by your phrase “talking up” — this is what I call “writing checks.”
sabutai says
I’m not heavy into Gabrieli, frankly. I’m just positing that if the Republicans are focusing more on him, it probably indicates a higher level of concern.
<
p>
As well know, the plural of anecdotes is not data. There are Republicans supporting all Democratic candidates I imagine, and vice versa. Geez, if one were to believe all the anecdotes from the convention we read here, every single Reilly delegate would have abandoned him by now, and Deval’s and Chris’s supporters would have switched en masse.
michael-forbes-wilcox says
I love your phrase
I’ll have to remember that one when arguing with some of my neocon friends, who seem to want to “prove” everything with a single extreme example.
<
p>
I guess I’m just oversensitive to the labels that some people try to stick on Deval. They just don’t work for me. His appeal is a broad one. In fact, I’ve heard more criticism of him from the left than from the right.
<
p>
And, I agree with you about Gabrieli. The GOP should be worried about him! I know I am. The fact that he’s not raising any money don’t mean doink, so far as I can tell. He doesn’t need to, and everyone knows that.
<
p>
Now your candidate, on the other hand, may have something to worry about. I don’t know. I don’t want to read too much into a two-week period in the middle of summer, but as you can imagine, I’m quite pleased that my candidate continues to attract visible support.

We’ll know in 24 days!

But the fun is in the speculation. Why else would someone watch pre-game shows?
