Harshbarger derided Romney’s born-again Governorship. He said the recent crime wave is an example of the kind of problems that can emerge when a Governor goes AWOL. “This is a failure of the Governor to be pro-active. It is really not about resources, it is about will. There may be egos involved, a lack of trust; that is what a Governor can solve. We watch the last three weeks where he has actually governed and you wonder, what would have happened if he had been doing this for the past three years? Deval will deliver that,” he said.
He defended Patrick’s refusal to cut taxes immediately to 5.0%. “That’s irresponsible leadership in this state. It’s just like Bush. Playing to people’s fears and their basic loss of confidence in government. It is much more responsible for someone to come up there and say I will use my judgment.”
Patrick served as Chair of Harshbarger’s 1998 Gubernatorial campaign committee.
