The Herald reports today that a Governor’s Council member raised questions yesterday concerning a judicial nominee who contributed to fellow councilor Peter Vicary’s campaign. Councilor Vickery voted to approve C. Jeffrey Kinder to the Superior Court bench.
It is one thing for a governor’s campaign to take $$$ from lawyers. The numbers are so big that it is neutralized. It is another when Governor Council members do not recuse themselves from an obvious conflict. They have a very specific mandate. Approve judges and do pardons. Would there be a problem if an inmate or his family flooded governor’s council members with campaign money? I believe there would be.

Best poll yet.
It’s Peter Vickery, the incumbent GC out here in the boonies, who had planned to retire and then changed his mind. He has a contested race against Thomas Merrigan, who I would guess is one of the Greenfield Merrigans. It’s almost the only primary race for which I’ve seen lawn signs so far in Amherst (PV’s home town) and surrounding towns (TM has some fans in Hadley and Sunderland).
when his name was spelled wrong and he complained, the response was..
“Does it Really Matter?”
