On the real: I am in a gray area about the unabashed reliance on cash. I can’t fault Gabs for spending the money if he has it, but we all know that it’s not encouraging for the race to come down to prime time saturation.
As I have said before, my loyalties lie with Patrick. If you put the two on equal financial footing, it becomes obvious that Patrick is the better choice. Better ideas with unequivocal support, a more dynamic and inspiring leader, and – what may prove even more vital than money in the general – an ability to resist the Democratic legislature. Gabrieli may not have this prerogative, given that he is on the ballot at all through the maneuverings of the leadership.
So if Gabrieli offers you a house, please say no thanks, and vote Patrick.

A couple of points to counter the Deval Lovefest that has overtaken BMG since the endorsement.

1) Really what has Deval accomplished ever in Massachusetts vis a vis the “public good”? Now compare that to Gabrieli’s accomplishments:
<
p>
Winner: Gabrieli hands down.

2) Momentum is a funny thing in politics. Either nobody has it or somebody gets it. Here’s a conundrum for you: The latest Kerry Healey poll shows the Governor’s race at a statistical dead heat. As the non-reality of that sets in, particularly with the Tom Reilly supporters, who do you think they are going to break to? Deval Patrick or Chris Gabrieli?
Think hard and long before you give me your “reality based” answer. Who get’s the short end of the stick on that one?

3) “The tactics of this consultant and his links to rival campaigns (sic?) are questionable and, following complaints from several labor unions, he is now under investigation by state campaign finance authorities.” Deval Patrick statement.
<
p> Who’s going negative now with unfounded allegations now? Please tell me where the evidence is that more than one “campaign” (singular) is involved?
<
p>
4) Just for the fun of it, regarding “ability to resist the Democratic Legislature”, let’s add up all the Reps and Senators votes aat the convention and see who owes the most?

I’m pretty sure Grace Ross’s campaign had also been communicating with Ray Rogers, though I don’t think to the extent of Reilly’s in so far as coordinating the schedule etc, which makes sense as it would clearly help her in the general election, unlike in Reilly’s case. That may have been the source of the plural there…

Shouldn’t he spell out his accusations instead of painting ALL the other campaigns as involved in some conspiracy against him?

“since”? Was there not a significant Deval fan club here before we endorsed?

Disagree if you have to, but don’t pin everything on us!

1) After being attacked by a paid activist recruited clandestinely by a rival campaign, I think Patrick and staff have remained pretty dignified and quiet about the whole affair – plural nouns (referring to perhaps Ross who spoke with Rogers?)aside.

2) Patrick doesn’t owe his entire existence on the ballot to the State legislators. Bear in mind also that Patrick earned each one of his endorsements through the appeal of his policies and his personality. He has no political favors to call in in Massachusetts, and rallied broad support over a long-standing AG and a popular local activist.

AND many of the delegates that the leadership sent Gabrieli’s way were acting on behalf of adding a third candidate. The reasons for that are debatable, be they benevolent inclusion, or political maneuvering.

Don’t get me wrong. I like Gabrieli, despite my hyperbolic accusations used for humor. But Patrick has more of what it will take both to win this election and govern this state.
