One of the major things that future candidates will learn from this election is that e-mails can and will come back to bite the sender in the rear.
Clearly, someone in the Gabrieli camp saved some which the Reilly camp sent back in January — and passed them on to Joan Venocci.
Please share widely!

Why is the Gabrieli camp piling on? Do they really expect Reilly supporters to come flocking to their guy after they release correspondence that is embarrassing to the AG?
<

Now, can we get back to discussing why Deval Patrick will make a great Governor?

the excuse he skipped over Gabrieli to select St. Fluer.
<
p>
Up until that point all we had was Tom Reilly’s “word” of what happened in his mind. Kind of like all we have is Deval’s “word” on the corporate silence over what happened behind closed doors at Coke, United, Ameriquest, etc.
<
p>
So, I suppose the Gabrieli campaign could let Tom Reilly’s word stand “that because Gabrieli didn’t want to release his tax returns, Reilly instead picked someone that agreed to fully release their
non-existanttax returns.<
p>
Or the Gabrieli campaign could release primary evidence of the Gabrieli campaign version of events. What would you have done if Deval Patrick was in Chris Gabrieli’s shoes?
<
p>
Makes sense to me, what about you?
michael-forbes-wilcox says
But, since you asked…
<
p>
Deval Patrick is not and would not be in Chris Gabrieli’s shoes. He has made it clear that he respects the long tradition of the Democratic Party to let the voters choose the LG candidate. Tom and Chris tried to short-circuit that process.
<
p>
And your innuendo that something untoward (“corporate silence over what happened”) was going on “behind closed doors” is just laughable.
<
p>
Deval’s record in the corporate sector is well documented and very public. Judge the man by the results he gets, not by some fantasy you have of how he might have achieved them.
<
p>
As Mr. Patrick has expressed it,
This is what he says. The evidence suggests this is what he does. This is the kind of Governor I want.

What happens if the Reilly campaign continues to crumble?
<
p>
Do the big name supports abandon the sinking ship? If so, what to they do?
<
p>
If the Reilly voters bail, do they go elsewhere or do they just stay home?
shillelaghlaw says
My guess is that Reilly voters would go to Gabrieli in the primary, and then a good chunk would go Healey in November.
<
p>Speaking only from personal experience, most of the Reilly supporters that I have met generally fall into two categories:
1. “Conservative” Democrats– Since Chris has portrayed himself (or it could be argued that the media has pigeon-holed him) as the “centrist” of the three Democrats, it’s only logical that these voters would go to Chris before Deval. That said, there are still a number of voters who vote in the Democratic primary, but then end up voting Republican in the general.
2. “Institutional” Democrats– There is a contigent of Reilly supporters who have been with him from the days when it was just Reilly and Patrick, because “He’s been AG for eight years, and was district attorney before that. He didn’t drop into the race without any prior political experience.” Seeing as Gabrieli is more of an insider then Deval, these guys will go with Gabrieli, too.
<
p>Again, this is all just based on my own observation talking to other activists who are aligned with other candidates, I have no scientific evidence to back this up.

Gabrieli is by far more the outsider than Patrick. Both are clearly more the outsider than Reilly – the perceived insider in this race.
<
p>
Patrick has been endorsed by the majority of the MA congressional delegation.
<
p>
Much of that insider support did everything they could to squeeze Gabrieli – a very loyal democrat in the form of time and donations – off of the ballot at the convention on June 3rd.
<
p>
He has much more public sector experience than Gabrieli.
<
p>
Patrick’s story is inspirational. It is also the product – at least in part – of government sponsored programs. Nothing wrong with that at all, but that’s a fact that even he highlights in his bio.
<
p>
Of the 4 major party candidates, page 4 of today’s Herald points out that Patrick places 2nd in the form of lobbyist donated campaign cash received. To date Reilly has pulled in $32K, Patrick $24K, Healey $15K, and Gabrieli $2K.

but what are you folks going to do when you realize that Reilly is actually gaining in the polls? Seriously? It is pretty hilarious that you are engaging in a exercise that ignores recent polling trends. The latest SurveyUSA poll had Reilly up 3, Gabrieli up 1, and Patrick down 1. In the previous poll, Reilly also gained.

MaverickDem I commend your loyalty but you can not be serious. Reilly is toast.

He’s surging to third place!!
sabutai says
The overconfidence and inertia of the other campaigns is our best friend! While Reilly pursues a campaign, Gabrieli’s and Patrick’s poeple get teary-eyed looking at polls.
<
p>
What about the obvious answer: Gabrieli’s campaign is now targeting Reilly beacuse they’re worried that Reilly is a real player in the race? May not fit with your worldview, but it makes since.
<
p>
And please, please, please can we stop the silliness about the “only poll that counts is on September 19th”? The only poll that really counts is the general.
<
p>
To use an analogy: on 11/7, we decide whether or not to eat for the next four years. On 9/19, we’re picking the salad dressing.
southshoreguy says
E Munster is correct Mav, sorry. You are a loyal and passionate supporter, but that view is gaining momentum in many sectors – although many of us have been saying/writing that for awhile.
<
p>
Reilly is in big trouble. This is not the year to be the perceived incumbent and/or insider – Reilly is both in this race. Add in all the previous hiccups and now this? I was surpised that he took this path of “attack”. Based on what I knew, I realized right away that his position was contrived at best and dishonest/incorrect at worst. Joan Vennochii documents that today & makes the key point. Reilly claims that Gabrieli’s lack of willingness to release his tax returns played a significant role in his decision not to be on a ticket with Gabs, then he chose a woman who did not pay hers? Brilliant!!!
