Adam Reilly has a press release announcing that the elusive John Kelleher is officially in the write-in race for Dianne Wilkerson’s state senate seat.
Enough is Enough: John Kelleher announces he’ll run as a Democratic alternative to State Senator Wilkerson
Why would anyone declare their intent to run for State Senate in a write-in campaign against an entrenched incumbent with less than two weeks to the Democratic Primary election?
It is because enough is enough. It is because honor, integrity and respect for the law matter greatly to me and to the hundreds of my frustrated
friends and neighbors I have talked to over the past months. I simply could not stand by without doing something.
The rest of the release goes on to talk about his background: Former state rep from Jamaica Plain, currently works for the Boston PD (taking a leave of absence to run for state senate).
What strikes me is this: We already have a candidate running on the principles of honor, integrity, and respect for the law.
(Yes, I work with Sonia Chang-Diaz… the usual caveats apply.)
No one has been clearer than Sonia that she is running because the voters deserve a leader who upholds the highest standards of conduct (scroll down for the quote).
So does Kelleher think he can win with a 2-week race? Wilkerson has the advantage of incumbency. Chang-Diaz and Diaz have the advantage of months wooing voters, getting press, and making themselves known. I know that a write-in race is a crapshoot any day, but I have to believe that he’s going to have a very difficult time putting a machine in place in the next 12 days.

This is so frustrating. How can Mr. Kelleher let his ego get in the way of seeing the obvious — that by further muddying the waters and dividing the “anti-Wilkerson” votes, Mr. Kelleher in fact helps, not hurts, Dianne Wilkerson.

Does anyone know this guy? Does anyone have any background on him? Got his email, snail mail, or phone? If so, post it or email it to me (just click on my username on this post), because I would like to have a conversation — even if one-way — with Mr. Kelleher about the counter-productiveness of what he is doing.

(I am supporting Sonia Chang-Diaz in this race — obviously.)

It looked like I stood a chance of getting a call back from the candidate, until they apparently checked this thread and figured out the gist of what I was going to say đŸ™‚
