With less than a week before the Democratic primary, gubernatorial hopeful Chris Gabrieli threw elbows at his opponents yesterday, calling Deval Patrick a fringe candidate, and ignoring Attorney General Tom Reillys presence in the race – because he says voters already have. Speaking at the Roxbury Preparatory School, Gabrieli said Patricks opposition to lifting the charter school cap and rolling back the state income tax shows hes out of the mainstream. Mr. Patricks slogan is Together we can, Gabrieli said. I think we should finish that sentence and (say): Together we can lower taxes (and) Together we can get education reform that really embraces innovation. Gabrieli added that Patrick got 57 percent of delegates votes at the states Democratic Convention in June by embracing left-leaning positions and having a small group of rabid supporters.

I don’t agree that Deval cannot beat Healey (though I don’t like his chances).

But just because you don’t like something doesn’t mean you get to slap a Rove label on it. As long as we dismiss talk of tax cuts out of hand, it makes the Republican “frame” seem like the truth. I’m okay with being from a party that doesn’t tax cuts willy-nilly, but I don’t want to be from a party that ignores the idea.
However, this is a blue state. If the “Democrat” who is crying “tax and spend liberal” in the primary wins the nomination, we get two conservatives running in November. Where’s the choice??

Personally, I think the electorate would be better served if the conservative Dems realigned themelves on the other side of the aisle. Let the liberals run as Democrats, let the conservatives run as Republicans, and let the voters have a real choice in November.

Voters are actually being asked this question now in polls, Patrick is soundly beating Healey in head to head matchups among MA voters despite the fact that Healey has been on TV more than Patrick and is already thumping the tax issue.
<

Also, and I realize this is only one data point, but Patrick’s TV ad on taxes impressed my right-of-center mother-in-law who had previously said she couldn’t vote for him because of the state income tax issue, it got her thinking – yeah property taxes had gone up a lot and that was actually a bigger burden to her – in short, she started connecting the dots that these things are inter-related – all from a 30 second ad! Quite an impressive feat, in my opinion.
You go to your local polling place. Walk in. Say hello to the nice poll workers. Ask for a Democratic ballot. (If you are an enrolled Republican, at this point you will be turned away. Come back in November.) Bring the ballot into the voting booth. Bubble in the little oval next to the name Deval Patrick. Bring the ballot back to the next poll worker, and place the ballot into the electronic ballot box.
Seriously, stop drinking the Republican kool-aid. Buying into their frame and following their advice is the proven path to defeat.

We avoided the guy with the “liberal” tag four years ago and lost. In fact, the entire Democratic party nationally tried to avoid the liberal tag, and they wound up losing the House, the Senate, and the presidency. Meanwhile, those candidates that stick to their progressive guns are getting elected.

Your strategy has been proven to be a losing one. How many more elections do you want to lose by going with the more conservative choice before you take the hint?

It wasn’t founded on the idea that someone would get stuck by a divine inspiration and know everything right from wrong. I mean, people who founded this country had religion, they had strong beliefs, but they believed in reason, in dialogue, in civil discourse. We cant lose that in this country. We’ve got to get it back.” -Wes Clark
