Bay Windows, one of the state’s leading weekly newspaper focused in GLBT issues, issued its endorsements today. They are:
Governor: Deval Patrick & Chris Gabrieli
Lt. Governor: Andrea Silbert, Tim Murray & Deb Goldberg
What, whaaaaa???
Actually, go read it because it shows you how far we’ve come when gay rights issues are, essentially, a non-issue for our party.
Digging a little deeper, however, and you’ll see where the Bay Windows editor’s heart is: in today’s South End News (its sister paper), the editor (Susan Ryan-Vollmar, who also edits Bay Windows) endorsed Deval Patrick and Andrea Silbert.
Please share widely!

BOTH Tim Murray and Andrea Silbert and Deb Golberg are gay rights supporters…but take a closer look…Andrea and Dorie Clark may have the inside track with Susan Ryan-Vollmer,but I think anyone readering and comparing WHY they endorse either Murray or Silbert can gauge the breadth and depth of commitment each has:

“…Murray, who also marched in Junes Pride, worked extensively with Worcesters LGBT community as mayor. At the request of community leaders, he organized Worcester municipal department heads to help created a day-long Pride festival. Thanks in part to Murrays help, the formerly poorly-attended event has become a popular annual party. Hes also privately lobbied Worcester-area lawmakers on the need to kill the anti-gay marriage amendment.”….

“….Silbert, like her fellow candidates, fully supports the civil marriage rights of same-sex couples. She also attended the Pride march with her young daughter in tow. As a candidate and politician, Silbert said, You can really be out there and you can be a role model and you can lead by example. I felt it was really important when I marched in the gay pride parade, I took my daughter. I want other families to say, Hey shes doing it, she seems normal and shes straight and she has children and theyre going and so, maybe I can feel a little more comfortable.

Both good…one proven better.

You nailed it on Murray’s part. Having been to Worcester Pride every year I’ve lived here, the event has transformed dramatically both in terms of numbers and who makes up those numbers. In fact, there was a deliberate decision this year to hold Canalfest the same day and a block away. I saw a lot of cross-mingling at both events that wouldn’t have happened otherwise. I ran into Sen. Augustus and mentioned this to him. He commented that we are finally starting to act ‘like a grown-up city.’

And Andrea…’she seems normal and shes straight’? C’mon.
