The Editors have weighed the evidence and their judgment is unanimous: vote for Andrea Silbert today for Lieutenant Governor. Read David’s assessment here, Charley’s thoughts here, and Bob’s endorsement here.
We wish all the candidates the very best. We especially thank the contributors at BMG who have argued, researched, and reasoned for their candidates these past few months. This website has evolved into a community where discourse is respected, alternate points of view are welcomed, and the good of all of the people of our Commonwealth is always top of mind. We couldn’t have done that without every one of you. We applaud you, congratulate you, and urge you to get out and vote! Go Massachusetts!

Thanks for coming to this conclusion.
Silbert has grown as a candidate throughout the primary and the BMG endorsement is a fitting highlight going into the election.

Mayor Murray has run a great race too and deserves credit for everything he’s done for Worcester and for keeping local aid front and center.

Good luck to both campaigns.

Glad you’ve agreed with me! (Lord knows that wasn’t always the case!)

Let me start by thanking the Editors and everyone at BMG. The fact that we’re here blogging on election day says something about the importance of this medium.

I respect the fact that the Editors have endorsed several statewide candidates, but I respectfully disagree with the endorsement of Andrea Silbert.

I’ve been leaning Tim Murray since he got into this race, but the clincher for me was Congressman Jim McGovern’s strong support for the mayor. I consider myself a progressive and have followed McGovern for years. He doesn’t take positions just because they’re popular. Jim was one of the first members of Congress to speak out against the war (when it was still popular). A few months ago, he was arrested in front of the Sudanese Embassy in an attempt to draw attention to the horrific genocide taking place in the Sudan. McGovern has been a leader on progressive issues and has bravely fought against the irrresponsible Bush / Cheney agenda in Congress.

Andrea silbert has brought a lot to this race and has a great track record w/ the Center for Women and enterprise, but to those who support Andrea because she is more progressive than Murray, I say look at the McGovern endorsement.

Some on this blog are trying to paint Tim as ‘Kerry Healy light.’ I don’t think a guy like Jim McGovern would endorse that kind of candidate. Deval Patrick and Tim Murray are the only team that can get Massachusetts going again.

I don’t think your description of the folks (at least, the folks here) who have decided on Silbert over Murray is accurate. I certainly don’t consider Tim Murray to be “Kerry Healey light” – anyone who has taken even a minute to review his record and positions could see that that’s not the case, and I’d be very pleased to have him on the ticket. Nor do I think most Silbert backers are going with her because she’s “more progressive.” They’re both plenty progressive. It’s more a question of emphasis, and of what the most compelling vision of the blank-slate office of LtGov seems to be.

I agree with David: you mischaracterize why some of us don’t support Murray.

For example, he won’t get my support because I don’t like to hurry.
