How did you do?
You may have recognized a few of these. I was forced to leave out the most Reaganesque of Deval’s lines because they contain telltale phrases like “checking out” and “checking in” which I’ve only heard him use to talk about disenchantment.
Numbers two, three, and six are Deval. The others are Reagan.
For anyone tempted to back a candidate because of “hopeful” rhetoric, remember that Reagan was the original Eternal Optimist. And look what he did to our country. Look at results and platforms, not rhetoric. I’ll take a ten-point plan or decades of experience over hope any day.

Well, Reagan did get elected twice, once decisively, the other time in a 49-state, 60-40 landslide. This overcame the man’s utter incuriosity and downright celebration of ignorance — traits that I think even bitter partisans would not assign to Patrick.

So otherwise, good comparison. I like it. Thank you.

Just wow. Even though we’re in campaign zombie mode some 36 hours out from the primary, the desperate misreading of this diary is stunning. I didn’t realize how badly some people wanted to win that they would accept Reagan’s meaningless, empty record as long as they were guaranteed his results at the polls. Winning at all costs makes sense if you’re a true believer, I guess.

And I have no doubt Deval will do very well among voters who care about pretty words than a record of results or thoughtful platforms. Vote Mr. Optimistic Hope for Governor!

Reagan wouldn’t have been a champion of renewable energy.

Reagan wouldn’t have stood up for a fair shot for the children of undocumented aliens.

Reagan wouldn’t have advocated forcefully for equal marriage rights for gays and lesbians.

The only similarity between Reagan and Patrick is great communication skills. I’ll take that from someone who is taking progressive positions any day.

“I would’ve killed to have a Democratic president with Ronald Reagan’s ability to talk to people.”

Shouldn’t he make it through the primary before he inevitably leaves Massachusetts for a higher calling!!!!
