Those of you who tuned in to CH 5 news tonight got a glimpse at what the camps of the Gubernatorial campaigns are telling reporters “off the record”…
in reporting on Patrick’s campaign day and stop at Downtown Crossing, Janet Wu, no novice reporter, said ON CAMERA that Deval Patrick was ignoring Andrea Silbert [who had been dogging the Patrick campaign day schedule and was yards away trying to get a joint photo op] BECAUSE Patrick secretly wants to run with Murray! She actually reported that!
CH5 and the Globe have been quizzing the Gabrieli camp, too…Patrick and Gabrieli may disagree on some minor things BUT they agree on one BIG thing….they want to run with Murray! BECAUSE THEY WANT TO WIN in NOV!
More Film at 11.

HLPeary, spin as usual. Murray is the candidate for people who are voting for Tom Reilly.

“If you want the rest of Massachusetts to look like Worcester (gasp) vote for Murray!”
hlpeary says
I don’t control CH5 or Janet Wu…surely she would not say that on camera without checking it out FIRST…
<

Call Janet Wu, Migraine. Ask what her source was…she spent the whole day talking to the Governor candidates and their key staffs…someone, and more than one someone, gave her that clear information. She would not have gone out on a limb like that without hard info from a credible source.
<

I don’t believe Reilly has a realistic chance to win tomorrow, but, if he did, he would secretly want Goldberg for her money to refill the coffers or Andrea to deliver the Cape Cod winter resident vote.
<
p>
Patrick and Gabrieli are praying for Murray because he gives them assets they do not already have…nothing personal…they just want to WIN.

I am curious as to what you mean here: “If you want the rest of Massachusetts to look like Worcester (gasp) vote for Murray!” As a person who lives ust outside Worcester, and with a family that lives in Worcester, I hope that was not a shot. The City has come a long way after Murray became Mayor. I understand eveyones statements of Worcester having a weak Mayoral position, but if he wasn’t an influence things would of started taking shape prior to him being elected. So please, what did you mean by such a comment?

Until you asked your equivalent of the Gabs ‘Springfield is Detroit’ question.

Worcester is a good city. I love it, and lots of us outside of Boston do as well. I won’t waste my time telling you why, since you obviously have your preconcieved notions.

I hope this sends at least one more vote Tim’s way, because only then will your comment have any merit whatsoever.

Not to portray Worcester as the closest thing to heaven but what did you mean migraine. Not that I understand alot that you have written on this blog or where you come from. There is arguably no scenario I see where Tim actually hurts any of the 3 for gov. It’s not far fetch that Gab, Patrick and Reilly want a Murray ticket.

This spin that Murray somehow complements a Deval ticket can only be coming from one place: Jimmy McGovern’s camp. It’s too bad Jim McGovern lacks the political vision to see beyond his insider blinders to know that our most effective ticket for the fall needs someone who can appeal to the voters who feel most left out of politics: suburban women. And an old school pol won’t get us there, thank you very much, no matter how much his alleged innovative credentials get touted.
<

Congressman McGovern’s dirty attempt to unduly influence what has been up until now a substantive, issue-oriented campaign borders on the comedic. If this guy had any juice at all, he would have long ago been able to convince the Patrick campaign to select Tim as his running mate. Instead they can only muster a brief mention in a TV news story that no one will see and a robocall from an eternally failed Boston city councilor. Pathetic.

I’m supposing you must feel the same way about Andrea popping in here.
<

This is really too bad, hoss…I actually have a lot of respect for you and your postings here. I really hope this is pre-primary jitters or something, Lord knows I’ve got ’em and showed them here.
<
p>
Say what you want about the LG race, but McGovern has stood up not only for my district but for all of us on important issues. The RIAA, same sex marriage, and his arrest in protest of the genocide in Sudan are just some that come quickly to mind. If you consider that insider, I’m an insider all day.
<
p>
But I’m guessing you don’t. I’m guessing that the taste of sour grapes is in your mouth because you see Andrea in 3rd. Well, I just want to say that you’re doing a disservice to your candidate…And that I’ll bet the farm that if Andrea is chosen tomorrow Jim McGovern will go to bat for her just as hard. Can you say as much for yourself if Murray is the choice?
hoss says
I have no problem, and in fact welcome, Cong. McGovern and any other elected official posting here.
<
p>
What I do have a problem with is someone working to take away the people’s right to choose.
<
p>
Janet Wu’s report said something along the lines of “insiders in the Patrick campaign” are actively supporting Murray. That goes against everything Deval Patrick has stood for. He’s talked about changing the culture, yada yada. This shows me he either doesn’t know what is going on with his campaign, or that he’s been blowing smoke about asking people to check back in. I want to believe in him, and will likely still vote for him. But I will vote for him because I know that we have to make 2006 the year that we make history with the first African American and first Jewish woman elected to the corner offices. Andrea’s the best choice to do that.
<
p>
As for these tactics, there’s simply no way that John Walsh and his staff are doing that, so I’m deducing that with the Congressman’s post here, the Wu story and the report I heard of a robocall from Steve Murphy touting Murray and Patrick on the SAME CALL, that only McGovern could be behind this effort. That call from Murphy had to have been jointly funded by the Patrick and Murray camps, unless there was someone else paying for it (Murphy perhaps?)
<
p>
So while my ire could possibly be more properly directed at Murphy (and I wouldn’t be the first directing ire towards him), I have a sneaking suspicion (and it’s admittedly only that) that the Congressman and his henchman are behind this. Make no mistake about it: Congressman McGovern is an excellent, effective and thorough legislator and someone who I am glad to have on my side on all those issues you referenced. I just think he’s made a colossal lapse in political judgment here. You can’t be right everytime, and this is one of those instances for the Congressman.
