Note to Gabrieli and Reilly supporters – don’t feel left out, if I find another 40 minutes, I’ll make negative ads of them too đŸ™‚ – but with school starting, may not have the chance….I’m not assuming DP is a lock (though I do like his position right now….I think “Reilly’s rebound” looks like it’ll subtract enough Gabs votes to push DP to win at 38%+2 GOTV%)

I looked at those, and they are … well, you said kinda said it first, they’re lame. (no offense meant, just being honest.) The themes you used for the text are pretty obvious, and they’ll probably show up in real negative ads. I think the only real change is that technology is making production of ads quicker and cheaper for everyone. I don’t see how it would save time for a campaign team to waste hours viewing homemade ads, most of which will probably be about the level of yours, rather than polling or focus-grouping to see what messages are likely to resonate.

What I’d really like to see would be less (or no) negative ads, but that unfortunately is a pipe dream.

The production values are low, but hey it’s a homemade ad. MoveOn has tried this idea of bottom-up ad production, and it could work. I personally think that in about 2 years the costs will be low enough for the technology that we’ll see many homemade ads come 2008.

Two things, however. First of all, any attack ad on Healey must use the words “Republican” or “Bush” or preferably both. Plus, I’d hope to hear about our population loss as well as job loss.

I liked the Deval ad. It does a decent job on the tax front, his major weakness, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see that horrid black and white photo somewhere down the line — he likes like a square Theo Huxtable.

The other major question I can find myself wondering is regulation. We’ve been lucky that online political activity is largely unregulated, but I’m not convinced it’s going to stay that way.
