Thanks to all who turned out for last night’s BBQ and LG-fest at Jimmy Tingle’s Off Broadway Theatre in Somerville. The food was excellent, as was the company – we had a nice turnout, and a good time was had by all.
Tingle is really quite funny – if you haven’t seen his show, you’re missing out.
Sadly, however, he failed in one respect: he didn’t help me make up my mind in the LG race. Both Andrea Silbert and Tim Murray acquitted themselves quite well in this unusual forum. Both could joke around when it was appropriate, while still getting across the themes with which they by now are very fluent: Silbert talked jobs; Murray talked Worcester renaissance and local aid. There were no obvious gaffes.
Really, this is a good thing, even if it is a source of personal consternation for me. At this point I don’t see myself voting for Goldberg, but Silbert and Murray are both very strong candidates who would each bring excellent, though somewhat different, credentials to the LG’s office. And while it’s easy enough to say that some pairings of Gov and LG candidates seem better and more balanced than others, that’s obviously not very helpful, since we won’t know who we’re getting at the top of the ticket until the second banana is chosen as well.
Ah well.

I know, I know, it sounds crazy, but why not?

If he was as good as you say (I wish I coulda been there…), why shouldn’t he moderate a debate between the Gov. candidates in October?

Actually, here’s a way to get attention paid to what will probably be the only LG debate of the general election: have Tingle moderate that.

I’m sure the media would treat that as the story and not the fact that they were debating, but in a way, that could prove beneficial and draw more viewers to a debate that would otherwise garner little attention.

I’m totally serious.

p.s. – BMG Boyz: are you going to be putting up a video of the Tingle Sessions before the primary?

It looks like will be broadcast on Saturday night at midnight on the Somerville Cable Access channel if someone wants to record it…

There was also a debate with the Middlesex Clerk of Courts candidates (Sullivan and Desmond) that did not evince a big difference between them.

Tingle was seriously funny and very quick on his feet with questions from the audience.
